Newt sneaks me some food to eat for lunch. Everyone's being extra cranky to me, even though inside they are wanting me dead.

I eat what seems like a feast. I drink so many gallons of water, I'm heading to the bathroom every few minutes.

I finish eating and Newt puts the containers back in his bag.

"Thanks." I smile at him.

"No problem, Macie." He smiles back. His smile makes my heart melt.

"Thanks for being so sweet to me. Thomas too. I don't know what I would do without you."

"You don't need me. You can take care of yourself. Your wise, strong. That's nothing to do with me."

"But I do need you. I like having someone to talk to; someone to trust. You went against boys you've been friends with for years. Just for me. I've only been here two days." I look up at Newt's brown eyes. He takes my hand.

"Let's get some sleep. We'll need our energy for tonight."

I look nervously at him. I've tried to forget about the banishment. My stomach churns. I run into the forest. My lunch comes back up. I barf up everything I ate today. I barf for about 5 minutes. After nothing's left, I fall backwards, exhausted. I hit the ground. Newt runs over to me.

"Are you okay?" He asks.

I don't respond right away. I look up at Newt. He has a concerned look on his face.

"I think I'm fine. I'm just scared of tonight."

He places a cool hand on my forehead.

"I don't think you have a fever, but I'm going to take you to the med-jacks anyway."

My stomach churns again. The last time I was there, I almost died from blood loss.

Newt picks me up in his arms.

"I think I can walk." I say quietly.

"Are you sure?" I nod. He places me on the ground.

I take a few steps and collapse. He places one of my arms around his neck; and one of his arms around my waist. We walk slowly to the homestead and find the med-jacks.

I find out that I don't have a fever, just nerves. Nerves of dying out in that maze, nerves of Thomas or Newt dying for me.
"Thanks." I say. I smile, embarrassed. He probably thinks I'm weak, can't take care of myself, needs someone to look after me every second of the day.
"Would you quit bloody thanking me."
"I won't because you keep doing kind things for me. I really appreciate it, Newt." I smile at him.
"Come on. Let's go get some rest. We have a long night ahead of us." We walk out of the Homestead.
"Can we get more food later? I'm hungry again." My stomach is feeling a lot better.
He walk to the hammock where we slept the night before. I slump down on the smooth fabric. Newt climbs in next to me. He throws the blanket on top of us. I'm freezing. His body heat is seeping into me instantly making me warmer. I turn over and face him. He puts his cheek on my head as he softly strokes my hair.
I fall into a deep sleep with Newt beside me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I see Alby standing in front of me. I raise the gun, the bullet is shot. It buries itself in his chest. He falls to the ground.
"Why, Macie? Why do you hurt people?" Tears stream down his face. Blood seeps into the white carpet. It run quickly to my feet. I step back to avoid it, but it runs faster. A huge wave of the red liquid fills the room. I back up into a wall. I can't go any farther.
I am swallowed. The blood fills my mouth, nose, and eyes. I can't see. I scream....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I jerk awake, drenched in sweat. I gasp for air. I look around and remember I'm in the Glade.
"Macie? What's wrong?" He places a hand on my shoulder. I push it away.
"I...I had another nightmare. It's Alby. I killed him." Tears sting my eyes, threaten to stream down my cheeks.
"Macie, it wasn't real. I promise you that."
I nod and try to put the awful images out if my mind. Instead one thing fills it instead, the maze. I might die tonight. Along with my best friends.
