Survive: A Maze Runner Fanfic

Chapter 14

Alby stands over me. I look over at Newt and Thomas. I'm worried about my safety as well as mine.

I look in turn at the other boys faces. Some look sympathetic, like Chuck, but many are angry or laughing at us, like Gally and Alby.

"Please! You don't have to do this." Tears spill from my eyes.

"Macie," Thomas whispers, "it's not worth it."

I glance at Newt. He's pale and looks afraid. He has a long scratch on his cheek. It's not bleeding that bad, but it looks pretty deep.

"Newt?" I whisper.

He looks at me.

"We'll be okay." Is all he says.

Gally breaks the silence in the Glade.

"Can we get on with this before the doors close?" He asks, impatiently.

Alby nods. Three other Gladers grab us and yank us to our feet.

"It's time." Alby says calmly.

I'm shoved toward the maze door. I turn around and face the boys with sticks. I run to them, but I'm pushed back.

"Please! Please don't do this! I beg you!" I scream and sob as I try to break their line.

"Push!" Alby says. The doors begin to close. I can tell by the loud booming that they are beginning to shut.

"Please! I'll do anything! Alby! Please!" I sob at the group of boys.

I'm constantly pushed back into the maze.

"Since she's not cooperating very well, don't give her the bag of supplies." Ably states.

I look and see one of the Gladers holding a brown bag.

"Please! You can't send me out there with nothing!" I scream at them. My voice echoes through the Glade, breaking the silence.

"Push her back!" Alby yells. The boys respond with a violent shove with their sticks. I'm hit in the stomach with one and I gag. I hold my stomach, a bruise forming for sure.

With one final shove, I'm flung backward into the door way of the maze. The doors have almost closed. I look and see one sight I never thought I would see. Two figure standing in front of me. Thomas and Newt. They were outside the maze.

"Macie!" He screams. Tears fill his eyes.

"Newt!" I scream back. I cough as I sob even harder.

"You'll be okay! I promise." He screams back. I look at their faces and cry even harder than I ever have before in my life.

The sound of the doors separates the slice of the Glade from me.

I see a sliver of Newt through the maze.

"I love you!" He yells as the doors slam shut.

"I love you too, Newt!" I scream at the solid rock doors. I don't know if he heard me or not.

"I love you too." I whisper.

I turn around and face the dark corridor of the maze. I take a deep breath.

This was it, I'm done for. My heart aches with one thought.

Newt.
