I looked around desperately, but it was too dark. "Hello?" I cried.
I heard more groaning, and I think the bloody person said my name again but was too weak. "Help... it's Lu-"
"Lucas!" I sobbed and kneeled next to him. I stroked his hair and tried to look into his needing eyes. "W-what's wrong?" I was so shocked.
He wouldn't answer me and I started crying. I tryed to pick him up, bridal style which looked weird but I just ran to my car. He was so heavy, I didn't know how the grooms could do this. I tucked him into my seat and drove to the nearest hospital, which was luckily 3 minutes away.
He groaned and I cryed even more, at least he was alive but he was in so much pain. It was so dark and quiet, it was almost like it hurt. I drove even faster.
"C'mon Lucas! You can do this!" I picked him up again and ran into the ER. "HELP!" I yelled, which was followed with a sob. Then the doctors andd nurses took him away on a gurney and left. I tried to run after them, i couldn't leave Lucas, but they just shook their heads and gently pushed him away.
I fell to the floor and sobbed uncontrolably, was Lucas going to die? This couldn't be happening. It can't! I was sobbing so hard people were looking at me at covering their moths with shock and grief. My mascara was running and I looked like a dying, crying mess. But I didn't care, not anymore.
The doctor came out walking slowly. She helped me up off the ground and gave me a sorrowful look which I returned with more crying. "He's not stable. He was shot...."
I fell to the ground again and the darkness enveloped me, like it did when Alisha beat me. But this time it was different. It hurt so much more.
I woke up in the waiting room of the ER, but there were more people. My mom, Lucas' mom and Lucas' dad and sister. After I opened my eyes they all put theirs on me and shot me a glance of grief.
"W-what's going on?" I sniffed. I shouldn't have asked. Is Lucas dead? I had wondered it so many times before but maybe this time it was real.
Lucas' mother shook her head "He's just extremely unstable. It'll be a miracle if he survives." She said the last word with a shiver. She was scared too, but not as much as me. I know people say a mother's love is unonditional but Lucas had something different. I loved him more than anyone else could.
The doctor walked up and I whimpered. "Calm down. He's stable but we don't know if he will make it or not yet. You can visit him but absolutely no touching or yelling."
I rushed into the room, no one followed me and I was glad. I sat down in the chair next to Lucas' bed. He looked like crap. "Lucas....I need you to wake up. I think I'll die without you." I scratched my cheek and sniffed to stop my self from crying. "What will I do without you? I love you." I had never said that to anyone exceot my mom, it meant a lot to me and I had been saving it for Lucas.
I put my hand on his. I didn't care what the nurse said. I needed to be with him. His finger twitched and I knew he was going to be okay. "Lucas, I love you." I whispered it again, to see if he would wake up.
"Genevieve." He gasped and wrapped his hand around mine. "I thought I would never see you again."
I shed some tears of joy but they weren't strong becuase I was in so much pain becuase of the other tears. "Oh Lucas. I'm always going to be here."
He sighed. "I know."
"I thought you died." I smiled and looked at him, "I was foolish."
"Yeah." He chuckled and then clutched his stomach. "Ow."
"What happened....? You were shot." I looked down at my feet.
He looked at the ceiling. 'You can't tell anyone." He said quietly. I nodded and he continued. "They call me Luke, instead of Lucas. I told them that was my name so they wouldn't track me down.... but I guess they did. It wasn't like a gang though. We never did anything illegal, we just hung out. One day the got mad at someone and told me to beat them to death, to prove my loyalty or whatever. I said I wouldn't and they said I would pay. I just ran off."
I was silent. What was I supposed to say. I flushed and looked at him. "Why did you join?" I demanded.
"My parents fought everday, I thought I would go crazy one day or something becuase of all the fighting so I looked for some 'brothers'."He closed his eyes in shame. "I'm a horrible person."
"Doofus. They shot you, not vice versa." But then my eyes widened "Why were you at in the park in the middle of the night." I choked. Was he cheating on me? No it couldn't be. But I was still nervous.
"Relax." He muttered. "I was looking for you, I was going to tell you everything.
My shoulders sagged and my muscles relaxed. "Okay. Won't they still belooking for you?"
"I don't know." He said and sighed. He looked worried, very worried.
I grabbed his hand again, strongly. "When can you get out of the hospital?"
"There is a clipboard on the desk." He nodded.
I grabbed the clipboard and looked at it. "A week." I groaned.
"Your lucky it wasn't a month." Said the nurse, and standing next to her were my mother and Lucas' family. I blushed.
