Friends

"May!", the penetrating voice of my mother woke me. "In two minutes you're down here and ready or you are going to be really late." Then the door was shut with a slam.

Slowly, I got up. Overslept. This is exactly how I knew my fortune, it's never there, when I needed it.

Well, maybe I should not blame it on fate or whatever, I did not get much of good sleep yesterday, which is a more plausible reason.

I got myself out of my shirt and went on dressing myself with the school uniform of Xulopp, the Aries district: a black plain skirt, reaching over the knees and a white, flowy blouse. My shoulderlong hair looked like a birds nest and I've learnt to better not comb them or they would look even worse.

"Are you coming, May? Your friends are waiting?!", called my mum from downstairs. Her voice sounded muffled through the walls, but I knew she was impatient.

"YEAHHH!", I screamed with my loudest voice, "I'M COMING MUM." Did she really had to that with me being this age already?

I looked one last time into the mirror, mumbled something about robins building a new home in my chaotic hair, opened the door and rattled down the stairs.

On the door my group waited. As every other day they came to pick me up, and just as every other day we were late. Of course because of me.

"Ah, there she is!", laughed Kai, the oldest one of us, "Make it quick, slowpoke!" I slipped into my shoes, grabbed my bag and breakfast and pressed my cheek onto my mums'. "Thanks mum, see you later!" "Please watch over her, she is all over the place!", said my mum grumpily, but I could see a faint smile on her lips. Kai raised his thumbs! "Ya'bet!"

He was my best friend since kindergarden and his new girlfriend Karen was not too bad as well...

Kai is an Aries just like me. Karens sign is the sagittarius and the last member of our group was my girl bestie Lyara, a leo. We were a perfectly, compatible Power-team!

One might ask, why a leo and a sag were in Xulopp, but its easy. Karen moved places, shortly after she and Kai became a couple, basically to marry him. It will take a bit until that moment will come, but their parents wanted it this way and as they were compatible and happy anyways, their perfect future was written out already. This was actually pretty normal, as everybody assumed and even doctors said, that a relationship between compatible signs is for a lifetime. Once you found one, your search was over.

Well contrasting to that, Lyara was only here, because both of her parents are Aries' and hence she was compatible, she was allowed to stay. It would've sucked if you would've to live seperated from your parents, which was not a rarity, sadly.

"What are you thinking about?", she teased me while we hurried to school and I waved hastily. It often happened that my thoughts brought me somewhere completely else and my friends had to pull me back to reality. "Nothing, it's nothing", I laughed and plucked a fluff from my skirt. "If you have something to tell us, you should do it now! Are you thinking about your secret little loverboy?", Karen smirked and took Kais hand, who smiled, but looked kind of anxious.

He went through his blonde hair, waiting for me to speak again. What's with that look, Kai?, I wanted to ask, but then he turned away. "No, I don't have a loverboy, you should know that anyways!", but Karen was already busy straightening her boyfriends collar.

Both of them looked like a married couple, indeed.

But still, I was not sure, not convinced, that Incompatibles would not be capable to look that way. Well, but there is enough proof, Compatibles really suited each other.

They looked great...

I sighed.

The lesson and the time just went by and I enjoyed this simple, everyday life, by not taking any notes and falling almost asleep. I often just dozed off, realizing it, when it was already late.

"I really don't know how to study all of it at home and how I'm supposed to graduate this year!", I complained, well knowing what I had to change, but not willing to accept it. It would not change, it was just in my nature to sit there quietly and think. I was one of those classmates who heard stuff like: "Oh my god, I never heard you speak, so that's how your voice sounds like!". Someone who hated to pick up the phone, because she did not know what to say. Reading in front of the whole class was a nightmare and I was that one person, who has finished the test already, but did not dare to stand up, because of the noise she would make and waited until someone else stood up first.

Complicated.

Sigh.

The way back was calm, as we were all tired and barely wanted to talk about anything. Lyara and I walked in the front, while Kai and Karen fell back a little.

I looked back and saw them walking hand in hand next to each other. The sun was just setting and lit up their faces, while they enjoyed each others company. How warm and light.

I turned to the front again, where the sky darkened itself already. True love, mh.

Something about these two was really unsettling, especially after my nightmare, but i could not express what it was exactly.

Maybe their perfection scared me.
