Welcome to the City

What should I do after I get on the plane? I haven't eaten in hours so I hope they don't take forever to serve us food. Should I watch a movie or go to sleep? I already slept so I'm probably going to watch a movie and I definitely know what Sabrina is going to do.

"Good evening, welcome aboard can I see your boarding pass please",the flight attendant said. I showed her my pass and then boarded the plane. Even though we were in the general class section we didn't sit too far from the first class people.

Once we got to our seats we put our carry-ons in the cabin above and Sabrina immediately started to crash. What did she do today besides travel that made her so tired? I got myself settled and took out my earphones. Look they even put blankets underneath the seat if we want to sleep. I'll probably use it if I get cold. In the meantime I took out my phone and put on some YouTube videos.

"Attention passengers. It is now 7:13 and the plane will be departing in 7 minutes. Our scheduled arrival time is 9:22 pm. In the mean time get yourself relaxed, use the toilet, plug in your headphones. Once again the plane will be departing at 9:20.", the co-pilot said. Speaking of it i do need to pee which is weird since I haven't drank anything. "ZZZ ZZZ.", Sabrina went as I walked to the bathroom.

7 minutes later: I've already come back from the restroom and my best friend is still snoring loudly. "Alright it is now 7:20 pm so we will begin departure. Make sure you have buckled in your seat belts and if you are using an electronic device make sure you put it on airplane mode and we will start leaving the Charleston International Airport now.", the pilot said. Ugh I hate taking off mostly because when we leave the ground it feels like your ears are punching you. Even if I have these earphones in, it still impacts me. Might as well turn off my phone now because I won't get service for some time.

Since I don't have bars right now what's on the TV screen for me to watch? Ooh the Lion King is on here. "It means no worries for the rest of your days, it's our problem-free, philosophy, Hakuna Matata.", I whispered. I'm definitely putting that on. As the sun began to set it started getting a bit cold. I turned my head to glance at Sabrina. Seems like she opened her blanket while I was doing number 1. So this is a good time while I'm reliving part of my childhood.

Around 8:15 the flight attendants were coming around with dinner. I won't have to wait that long since I'm kind of in the middle. Once one had gotten to our row the food slowly started to run out. "Hello mam what would you like to eat tonight? We have ravioli, meatballs and shrimp fried rice." I already had fried rice today. "So I'll have the meatballs with a coke." Sabrina is probably hungry better wake her up. I nudged her with my elbow.

"Mmm...", she said. "Wake up dinner is here. She has ravioli, meatballs, and shrimp fried rice." I replied. "I'll have the ravioli with a Fanta.", she said to the flight attendant. She handed us our food and continued to the rows behind us. Good timing lady I'm almost at the best part of the movie.

I finished eating and watching the movie within the next 10 ish minutes. "Attention passengers. The time is now 8:42 pm. We will be landing in the next 40 minutes. So enjoy your last few minutes of wifi and again we will land in 40 minutes at 9:22 pm.", said the pilot again. I'll probably use the remaining time to go on YouTube. And now Sabrina's wide awake. "Ayy I gotta go peeee!",she squealed.

During the last few minutes of the flight i put my phone back in my pocket and just took in the sound of the engine. It's after 9 right now so that means we're almost in Queens yes. Oh the hustle and bustle of the city. My dream is coming true I wonder if it will actually be the empire state of mind like Jay-Z and Alicia Keys talk about.

I can already see the city lights from here. Wow it looks better in person. "This is the last announcement. The time is now 9:18 pm. We will be landing at the Laguardia Airport in New York, NY in 4 minutes. The temperature is 49 degrees right now so make sure you have a sweater or jacket.",the pilot announced.

WHOOSHHHH! The plane went. Yay we're landing I can hear the plane hitting the ground. BING! BING! We finally landed at the airport. People started getting their bags from their cabins and exiting the plane. Then it was our turn to exit now. "Have a Goodnight.", a flight attendant said. "You too.", the both of us replied as we started walking towards the airport.

We started walking towards the baggage claim area to get our suitcases. "Hey I can see the taxi area from here.", Sabrina said. "So where are we staying again, besides queens?", I asked. "We're staying at the housing suite at the Courtyard Marriott near the college. " , she replied. We started walking towards the taxi area at the other side of the airport.

Once we got to the taxi area there was already a line of taxis waiting for us. There were also about 5 full taxis from other passengers from our flight. So we hopped in the 6th taxi. "Hello I'm Mikey and I'll be your your driver today. I can take your bags.", our driver said. "Mikey seems like a weird name for a girl.", Sabrina whispered to me. "Mikey could be short for Mikaela you never know.", I said.

"So where is your destination?", she asked. "To the Courtyard Marriott hotel in Queens.", I said. It's a 30 minute drive from here.  Traffic couldn't be that bad right? The other taxis started moving but they were moving very slowly. Maybe there's a concert or accident close by. "How come we are barely moving, Mikey? Shouldn't there be less traffic in the night?", I asked.

"Well, welcome to the city ladies. Even in the nighttime the city never sleeps. Why do you think New York is called the big Apple? Is this your first time in New York?", she said. "Yeahhh.",  the both of us said. "Figures.", she replied. Um ok then. "It's 9:41 and we should be there at 10:25."

Wait 10:25! "Hold on I Googled the drive when we got in this taxi at 9:30. The drive was supposed to be 28 minutes or at most 30. So how did you get 10:25?!", Sabrina shouted. "Yeah that was the estimated time I didn't expect for there to be much traffic. You don't want to deal with the apple then don't come to the apple!", the driver shouted back.

"I didn't ask for your input and for your information me and my friend Jade came here for college from Charleston. And second focus on the road instead of inserting your comments. ", Sabrina said. Mikey sure shut her mouth after that. I'm pretty sure we're gonna meet some more people like that since we'll be staying here.

Well she's definitely not tired anymore. Why does she have to give us this attitude that late. I just want to check into the hotel suite and sleep. Of course it didn't take 55 minutes to get to the hotel. We got there at exactly 10. What a liar. She parked at the  housing suite entrance at the hotel and got our bags and put them by the entrance while she started up the car again.

"Hello are you two one the Queens college rising students?", a lady at the front desk said. "Yep.", the both of us said sluggishly. "Alright what are your names?" "Jade Michaels." "Sabrina Walker." "Ok Jade Michaels, you'll be room 308, and Sabrina Walker you'll be staying at room 309. Breakfast will be served here in the lobby from 5:30 to 11. ". Then she gave us our keys. "The elevator is to your left."

Well slowly walked to the elevator and went to the third floor. I'm glad we're finally here. We'll see what happens in our first day in the city. We already got a taste of that tonight. "Well night Walker.", I started with my arms out. "Night Michaels.", she finished while hugging me goodnight. I changed into my nightgown and belly flopped into my king size bed. Goodnight big apple. Zzzz.
