"The only bad thing about getting expelled is that I can't walk into school with you," Nico said bitterly, face twisted into a grimace as he parked on the curb outside the school gate. Students were staring at the two of us without shame, people seeming to slow their steps as they walked past us. Nico, not usually one to care about people staring, glared at those whose gazes lingered a little too long through the car windows.

Managing a small smile at the blatant distaste written all over Nico's face, I grabbed his hand and pressed a hard kiss to his knuckles, more of a good luck charm for me than for him. Nico stopped looking at the students looking at us to drop his eyes to our linked hands, sighing.

"Wes, are you sure you'll be okay?" Nico asked, making me roll my eyes.

"Nico, I'll be fine," I said, forcing my voice to stay level. "I think."

"You think?" Nico repeated, frowning.

"No, no, I know," I said hurriedly, shaking my head. "Benny said that Daniel's still recovering from, you know, the fight and everything, so he's not back at school yet. And after all of that, the teachers are apparently patrolling the school like we're a prison or something, so it should be fine." Nico raised a brow, and I quickly hurried to correct my words. "No, I'm sure it'll be fine."

"I still don't like it," Nico mumbled, his eyes shooting death glares through the window again as some more students walked past, ballsy enough to actually point at the two of us.

"What happened to being proud of me for wanting to go back to school," I said, curling my mouth up teasingly. "Where did my supportive boyfriend go?"

"He didn't go anywhere," Nico said, eyes turning into small crescents as he smiled, kissing the side of my mouth carefully. "He's just supportive and worried."

"Hey," I said, clasping my hands around Nico's face, fingers tickling his cheeks. "I'll be fine. I'm just going to class, I'll keep my head down. Benny will keep me company anyway."

"Okay, as much as I trust Benny, I'm not sure how good he'll be at protecting you, babe," Nico said, eyes gleaming with mirth.

"Yeah, he'd probably be the first to go down, to be honest," I said, Nico snorting as he leaned in to kiss me again.

Knock, knock, knock.

"Speak of the devil, your questionable bodyguard is here," Nico said, glancing behind me as I pouted, turning to look at the person interrupting us. Benny stood there, fingers poised in the air as he wiggled his brow at the two of us.

"I swear he always waits for the worst time to show up," I huffed, Nico laughing, giving me a kiss before handing me my backpack from the backseat.

"Wes, if anything happens, call me straight away, okay?" Nico said, running his fingers through my hair once as I nodded, stepping out of the car. Slinging his arm over my shoulder, Benny bent down to give Nico a quick greeting, making a grand promise about protecting me. Nico and I gave each other a look, smiles reflecting off each other, before we parted. As I walked into school, trying to ignore the curious glances of other students, I noticed Nico's car lingering at the gate, only peeling off the sidewalk when I disappeared into the building.

The moment Benny and I stepped into the hallway, the energetic post-weekend buzz quietened for a brief second, all eyes on us. It didn't take long for people to begin whispering again, voice soft but loud when united.

"Hey, that's Nico's boyfriend, isn't it. So he's back from his suspension?" a voice spoke from the side, my ears pricking up at the sound.

"Boyfriend? Are they actually dating?" her friend asked back, voice a little louder.
