"What?" Derek asked, coming up to me.

I stood up and looked at him. "I'm leaving... what you did back there-"

"Was for his own protection."

"Protection? Throwing a glass at him?"

Derek sighed and rubbed his eyes.

"Yeah that's what I thought."

"Look I'm sorry," he said.

"Really? You don't sound it. And why aren't you telling him? Why aren't you apologizing to him?"

"Because he'll only stick around and get himself hurt."

"And what about Cora? You're letting her stay."

"She's my sister."

"Isaac is your pack!"

"And Cora isn't! She isn't in danger in that way."

I zipped up my suitcase.

"Well right now I'm not staying with someone who reminds me of my father in any little way. Telling Allison about her mother and now this? I don't know who you are anymore."

I started to walk away and Derek grabbed my arm.

"Please don't," he whispered.

"I can't stay..."

I picked M'Lynn up.

"Where will you go?" He asked.

I debated answering him like how he did to Isaac but I decided not to.

He did deserve to see M'Lynn whenever he wanted because he was her father.

"My grandmothers."

"Lizbeth please..."

I avoided his eyes and shook my head. "Goodbye Derek."

I got into my car and got M'Lynn in and I started the car.

I drove away, forcing myself not to look in the review mirror.

It wasn't until he was out of sight that I let my tears fall.

Two hours later and a couple gas station stops I arrived at my grandmothers.

She took me into her arms as I crumbled under them.

I felt terrible, showing up announced and with a baby on my hip.

She gave me my old room that I had when I lived here after my father was imprisoned.

"We'll have to get a crib tomorrow," Laurel said.

"That's fine," I whispered.

"Everything will work out Elizabeth, don't worry," she patted my shoulder.

I really hoped so, for everyone's sake.

I sat on the bed and stared at the wall, going over everything that happened again and again until I had to stop otherwise I'd be heading back to Derek.

But I couldn't.

It had been a couple months and I was downstairs, working on the dishes when I heard the doorbell.

I walked over and opened the door and saw Derek standing there.

He looked up at me and I had to hold myself back from running into his arms.

That wasn't how it was anymore.

I stared at him for who knows how long before I found my voice.

"Derek?" I asked. "What are you doing here?"

"Can I come in?"

I opened the door further and stepped aside, allowing him to come in.

"I came to give you this," he said, handing me a envelope.

I opened it and saw a check.

"You drove two hours to pay me?" I asked. He had been making monthly payments for M'Lynn which I told him he didn't need to do if he didn't want to, but he insisted.

Derek stood there. He looked exhausted, worn, and ready to collapse.

I stepped slightly closer. "Are you alright?"

"Can I see her?" He whispered.

I nodded "have a seat," I whispered and quickly ran up the stairs and picked M'Lynn out of her play pen and brought her down.

Derek was sitting by the table and I handed her to him and he held her close and wrapped his arms around her.

He softly played with her hair and kissed her forehead.

I sat in the other chair and looked at him.

"Derek? What's wrong?" I asked.

He set her down at his feet and she looked up at him with a smile.

I looked away, I wanted so much that couldn't happen.

"There's someone else," he said slowly looking at me.

I sat there, not knowing what to say.

"I Uh... I slept with her."

I raised my eyebrows and rubbed the back of my neck. "We are separated Derek. I want you to be happy. If she makes you happy..." I was going to say you have my blessing but he didn't. I felt my heart tighten in jealousy thinking about her hands being where my hands had once been.

"Boyd is dead."

I snapped my head up looking at him as he stared at his hands.

"What?" I whispered.

"We attacked the alpha pack and we lost... after that they came to the loft and we fought again and to prove a point they forced me to kill Boyd. I killed him."

I grabbed his shaking hands and looked at him. "You didn't kill him."

"How do you know?"

"You're a lot of things but not a killer... and you promised me."

He rubbed his mouth and let out a shaky breath.

"This wasn't suppose to happen."

I wasn't sure if he was talking about Boyd or us or both.

I threw boundaries aside and hugged him and he pulled me closer so I was sitting on his lap.

He buried his head in my shoulder and I gently rubbed the back of his neck.

He gripped my waist and looked at me.

"Please give me a second chance," he whispered.

I couldn't look at him and he gently turned my head.
"Lizbeth please..." he begged.

I felt terrible. I felt like the worse being in the world to disappoint him and hurt him again.

"You shouldn't have come," I whispered. "Derek please..."

"Lizabeth I'll do anything you want- anything."

I shook my head and bit my lip. "My father... was the king of apologies. I can't believe- I can't... go through all that again."

"I'm not him- I promise- I mean it."

I got up and shook my head. "I can't take that chance."

He looked away and left without a word.

I watched as his car drove away and I sat down and cried.

He shouldn't have come, he just ended up hurting us all over again.
