a few quick tips to have a stress free and chillaxed life. these will mostly help students and workers; but can be used by anyone.

tips to destress

➵ reach out to someone

talk to someone that you trust, share what's going on, this will help you relieve your stress and problems.

➵ drink something warm

a warm drink always helps me feel cozy and nice. green tea or hot chocolate are my favourite, but of course what you drink is up to you. water is also good for destressing your mind and body.

➵ listen to music

i tend to listen to instrumentals from ghibli films, kdrama ost's, classical piano pieces, bts songs or sad and slow english songs.

➵ do some journaling

if you don't have anyone to talk to about all your problems, you can write down things that went on during the day or how you're feeling at that moment. journaling let's you release your negative thoughts and i definitely recommend it. i actually used to do this but now i stopped doing it.

➵ colouring and puzzles

if you don't own one already, i recommend you invest in an adult colouring book. colouring has been considered a form of therapy for some, so play some tunes and ignore the world for a bit, just focus on filling in those blank spaces. if for any reason you can't get a colouring book, you can get puzzles instead. sudoku, word searches, jigsaw puzzles and even rubik's cubes might be able to help you relieve the stress.

➵ stay positive

laughter has been found to lower levels of stress hormones, reduce inflammation in the arteries and increase good HDL cholesterol.

➵ meditate

this practice of inward-focused thought and deep breathing has been shown to reduce heart disease risk factors such as high blood pressure. meditation's close relatives, yoga and prayer, can also relax the mind and body.

➵ exercise

every time you are physically active, whether you take a walk or play tennis, your body releases mood-boosting chemicals called endorphins. exercising not only melts away stress, it also protects against heart disease by lowering your blood pressure, strengthening your heart muscle, and helping you maintain a healthy weight.

➵ avoid electronics and over studying

it's almost impossible to escape stress when it follows you everywhere...but not completely. many of us get stressed because of work, exams and studying. avoid emails and books for a couple of minutes or an hour. take time each day — even if it's for just 10 or 15 minutes — to escape from the world. you can do this by taking a quick nap, taking a walk, doing something you enjoy or just simply by eating your favourite foods.

➵ identify your stress trigger

recognising the triggers to your stressful reactions is an important step in managing your stress. true, it might be impossible to remove life’s stresses, but understanding the things that stress you out—and in what ways—is particularly helpful in solving the underlying problems.

what stresses you out? how do you react to it? there are a host of physical and mental reactions to stress, and everyone reacts differently. understanding how it manifests in your life is the first step to finding balance.

➵ eat well

nourishing your body with the right food will give you the energy you need to tackle what life brings you, including stress.

every body has different nutritional requirements, and ayurveda teaches us that dietary plan should be based on an understanding of your unique mind-body type, or dosha. if you’re stressed out, what you’re eating is a great thing to look at, as different doshas are triggered by different foods. it’s important to make conscious eating choices with your unique dosha in mind.

but some may also over eat when they are in stress, so you have to be very careful to not over eat.

➵ get a good night's sleep

are you getting enough sleep? restful sleep is an essential key to staying healthy and strong. when you’re well-rested, you can approach stressful situations more calmly, yet sleep is so often neglected or underemphasized.

the key is making sure you’re not only getting enough sleep, but that the quality of sleep you’re getting is restful and restorative.

➵ create a gratitude practise (mindfulness)

gratitude is a powerful force that you can use to expand your happiness, improve your health, and helps you cope with stress.

many scientific studies, including research by renowned psychologists, have found that people who consciously focus on gratitude, experience greater emotional wellbeing and physical health than those who don’t.

➵ smile

research has found that even a fake smile can help you handle stress. so if you’re looking for a way out of stress, you’ll need to smile more. you can practice by smiling at strangers or your friends a bit more!
