i always wanted to know how to do those fancy letters and joins and maybe you have too.

i started practising by myself since the 8th of July 2019 and i can confidently say that i can teach someone the basics of it.

of course, i'm not an expert, i can't even hold a brush pen properly but with the things i know; something similar can be created.

the paper is a bit (actually a lot) crinkled, i apologise. and for those who can't read it because of the lighting, size, quality or anything else it basically says;

How to Calligraphy

NOTE:

    • start of by learning how to write the lower and uppercase calligraphy letters with either a pen or a pencil before going any further with brush pens.

alphabet without volume;

lowercase

uppercase
(refer to the paper)

   • practice these letters until you remember every letter's curve, edge and shape.

    • after mastering the calligraphy alphabet, now begin to give the letters some volume (thickness).

ADDING volume:

  • add the extra thickness while doing downward ⏬strokes by applying more pressure on your pencil. reduce the pressure when doing upward ⏫or straight ⏩strokes.

(refer to the paper for worked examples.)

   • if you can't see the volumed lines properly, try using a crayon with the same pressure areas or you can start handlettering — or faux calligraphy as some may call it.

handlettered
(fill / stripe / dot / gradient...etc)
