"You better not start a fight again." New says in the car. Tawan gives New a quick glance, snickering at the boy. "If you start a fight again, I'll be sure to block you everywhere."
"Yeah, yeah. I won't."
"Promise?" New puts up his pinky finger.
"What are you? Ten?" Tawan comments. "What if I start a fight just to protect you?"
"We both know I'm not the type to get into a fight." New puts up his pinky to Tawan's face.
"I'm driving!" Tawan scolds but the boy still blocks his view. Tawan gives up. "Fine, fine." He grabs New's finger and promises the boy. "Only exception is that when I'm protecting you."
"Sure." New says sarcastically.
"Maybe this is your plan. Get me so pent up inside that I unleash everything on you like the other day." Tawan jokes.
New pokes the boy's side, causing him to jump. "No!"
"Caught you in a lie."
Krist offers his food. "Take some of my beef. I can't look at your plain food." He places it on the boy's plate. "I have never met anyone who eats like that."
"I can't handle spicy food. My stomach will get upset." Singto explains.
Krist shakes his head. "With me, you are going to eat more spicy food."
Singto smiles, "Are you going to invite me out for dinner then?"
"Aren't we out for dinner right now?" Krist asks.
"I mean the next time."
Krist looks around the shop, avoiding eye contact. "You talk too much. You should eat."
Singto eats his food, saving the beef for last. It is from Krist. The two boys enjoy their dinner together, casually talking about school and gossip about their friends once in a while. Singto has never been on a date with guy before but if this is how it feels like, he wouldn't mind enjoying more of it.
"Would you like dessert?" Singto asks. His belly is already full but wants the night to last longer.
"There's an ice cream shop nearby." Krist says. "I can show you the way."
Singto nods. The two boys left the shop and heads towards the ice cream shop. "Hey, Krist. What made you agree to go out with me?" Singto asks, trying to balance himself at the curb.
"I figured I should get out of the dorm than to let myself rot inside." Krist replies. "And can you not be so close to the edge?" He warns
"If you don't mind me asking, what happened?" Singto asks, ignoring the older boy's warning, still balancing. He didn't know if it was a risky question to ask but he's curious.
"It's Prae." Krist says shortly. "I had to break up with her because her brother told me that her grades are going down, she keeps coming home late and she's been skipping class. Her brother told me I was a bad influence, a burden, to her."
"And you believed him?"
"I do." Krist scratches his head. He didn't know if opening up to the younger boy is the right thing to do. "It's a fact that her grades are dropping and she goes home late whenever she's around with me. I didn't know that she has been skipping class just to meet me as well."
"So the brother threatens you to leave her?"
Krist nods. "Yeah. It happened a few months ago. Her brother would beat me up until I broke up with her. I tried to endure it but each beating just got worse and worse, I couldn't handle it anymore. When I broke up with Prae, I thought it was the right thing to do but it made me even worse. I was emotionally broken and mentally unstable. I just had to throw whatever I'm feeling inside to whatever I can reach with my hands."
