I watched as she slipped the keys out of her pocket and almost slam into a car as she looked down to unlock the car.

She veered left and the keys slipped.

My mind blanched.

Shit. There was no way we'd be able to grab the keys, not with them on our heels.

I ran and hid.

Ember had the same thought and darted between some cars and ducked down behind one.

Peeking my head out slightly, I grimaced as I watched Seth picked up our only way out.

I practically crawled over to where Ember was. "You fucking dumbass!" I shouted.

"Hey! Don't blame me! Do you know how hard it is for me to multitask? While running?" she defended.

"You're lucky I like you," I grumped. "Next time, the keys stay with me."

Hearing the boys getting closer, I moved behind another car.

"There's not going to be a next time." Caleb said.

I rolled my eyes. "Okay, yeah whatever."

I darted behind another car and Ember was there too.

"Hey, what's good?" She grinned, bumping fists with me as if we hadn't just seen each other.

I grinned back. "Aw, nothing much. Just running away from my brother and his pet dog. You?"

She grinned at my snub and shrugged. "You know we're going to get caught right?"

"Yep. But let's make them as mad as we can before we do."

She smiled. "You have extraordinary ideas."

"Of course I do. I brought us here, didn't I?" I scoffed.

Hearing the boys cussing us out, we jumped cars.

"Let's meet up after school. My house or yours?"

She thought about it. "Who's staying at your house? How many?"

I squinted, thinking back to this morning, when everyone informed my dad who was coming back home. "Uh, I don't know, still ten probably?"

"My house then."

"Enough is enough. We have school today," Caleb called out, still clueless as to where we were.

I ignored him. "Let me stay for, like, two days. It'll allow Seth and Caleb to calm down a little bit."

She nodded. "Yeah, it'll probably be best to stay out of their sight for the next two or three days."

"If the both of you don't come out, right now-"

Ember huffed. "Fuck off!" she shouted.

Pounding footsteps were heard and I turned to her giving her my best I am up to here with your bullshit face. "You constantly prove my point that you have no survival skills whatsoever."

She gave me an incredulous smile. "Those words cannot be coming from your mouth." She rose and took off with a: "I'll see you in like a minute when we both get caught."

We went our separate ways, coming into full view of the parking lot.

I just ran, no destination, just speed, but apparently it wasn't enough because Seth caught me. Gripping my arm, he pulled me over his shoulder.

"Put me down!" I shrieked. "Your shoulder is not comfortable! If I throw up on you, it's your own fault."

Seth didn't care and he made his way over to his car where Caleb was dragging Ember by her waist.

I slapped Seth's ass in effort to get down. Yelping, he smacked mine in return and I copied his reaction.

"Let me down," I groaned, feebly kicking my legs.

"Why, so you can run away again?"

"I will fuck you up! Unhand me beast!" Ember yelled, drawing attention and making me burst into laughter.

"Ember, calm down and let's just go to school," Caleb tried.

"Fine," I said, speaking to Seth's ass. "We'll go to school. Just give Ember her keys back and we'll follow you."

Seth scoffed. "You think you're slick? Fuck no. Caleb's gonna drive Ember to school and you're riding with me."

"The fuck I will!" Ember yelled.

Setting me down, Seth tossed Ember's keys to Caleb, who caught them one handed, before trying to drag an uncooperative Ember to his car.

"Bitches get stitches!" she shouted.

I smiled, thinking about how much I loved my crazy best friend.

"Please, just get in the car," Caleb groaned, looking more and more frustrated.

"Kiss my ass, bitch," she snarled.

Leaving them be, Seth directed me towards his car and followed me to the back seat on the passenger side, opening the door and making sure I was in.

I frowned as he shut the door. Is he dumb or something?

I moved my hand to unlock the door, only to find that it wouldn't open. Tugging at it more, I realized that he had the child lock on. I glared at him as he hopped in the driver's seat and adjusted it, looking at me through the mirror.

"Why are you pouting?"

My glare deepened. "Who's pouting?"

He smiled, catching me off guard. "You definitely are."

I studiously ignored him. Like hell I'm talking to him.

"C'mon, don't ignore me Avy."

Too bad, so sad, cause it's happening. I stared pointedly out the windows, watching trees go by.

"Oi, put your seatbelt on."

I looked up to see him staring at me through the rearview mirror and frowned. "We're like ten minutes from school."

His eyes flicked to mine before back on the road. "Accidents happen all the time."

I tilted my head. "Are you calling yourself an incompetent driver?"

He huffed. "My driving skills are fine. I'm worried about others' driving skills."

I shrugged, pulling out my phone, scrolling through the numbers I got.

How many #'s u get?

Ember texted back immediately.

U ready to take ur L?

Girl plz

Don't b sad that ur a loser

I grinned.

"Avy! Seatbelt!" Seth barked.

Dismissing him with a wave of my hand, I texted Ember back.

I think u mean u

how many you get?

I frowned, looking around, noticing the rumble of the car had stopped. Looking up, I saw an irritated Seth staring me down. "What?" I snapped.

Seth gritted his teeth. "The seatbelt Avy."

"Fine!" I huffed, baring my teeth and clicking the seatbelt in. "Happy now?" I raised an eyebrow and went back to my task as Seth continued to school.
