Darkness. I can feel it, the empty space, the unknown. My hearts jolt, as if struck by lightening, and my lungs rattle, voracious, as oxygen is sucked in, fuelling the seven pistons which pump blood around my scrawny body, giving me strength. I've been asleep for a long time, I know that much. How long, I cannot be sure.
The face of a man appears, another glowing a molten orange beside him. I can smell the heat off his body. He is not human... he was once, but no longer. I observe the strange pair sift through rubble, curious of my ancient tomb, of the strange inscriptions and illustrations that they have no hope of depicting. Only an immense volume of power could have accessed this chamber and broken the great seal woven by the dragons. I can sense the enchantment in its final moments, nothing more than remnants, ashes disintegrating as they are lost to the atmosphere. One of these men has lost their humanity. By gaining so much power their limit has been broken, like a cap from a bottle, it has exploded and they have access now to the great source of all things, the energy of this universe. That cannot go unchecked. I must protect him. I must rise... my legs, my arms, they do not remember how to move. My brain is groping at lost connections. All of this time I had spent dormant has almost destroyed me, it must have been centuries...
"Genos... something is moving over there!" The bald man points to where I am hopelessly attempting to shift crumbled wall, boulders, from my frail body. My presence has become known. They can only free me now, two such powerful beings, they won't flee in fear of me. But... the bald man's face is so disconcerted... could he be unwilling to explore the situation?
Seriously... am I gonna have to free myself? What a pain!
I inhale slowly, as if testing the air. I feel disconnected from my powers, but that cannot be true. Awaken, powers! It doesn't work. Shit. I cough from the small particles of dust that have entered my lungs. Uhhh... I'm so weak now. It will take decades to return to my full potential after this. Damn those Dragons... I clench my fist, but then realise that I'm not actually clenching it because I'm so weak.
"What are you?" The hot smelling, molten, robot/human demands of me. "Are you a threat to myself or my master?" I can see his hand outstretched towards me. He isn't offering aid, it's a threatening gesture. I can taste the explosive power in the palm of his hand; it would incinerate anything for miles.
I test my voice; "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm..." Alas, it's no use, all that's broadcasted is meaningless vibration. I am currently unable to communicate.
"Is it a mole?" The bald man peers over his companions shoulder. My hand twitches. The nerve of this insolent human! I am no mole! My power is unparalleled! I will teach him respect.
"I don't think so," says the other, "I can detect the infrared heat waves and it seems to be of similar build to a human. It's possible that they are dead." He trails off, lowering his arms. "Master, we should leave this mysterious place-"
"Huh. I found an arm." I feel the skin of another human against my own. His hand is precise, the man doesn't fumble or have to readjust his grip on the boulder as it is lifted, as thought weightless, from my body.
Huh. So that's why I couldn't speak; my body was ironed flat underneath the rock. I hear an exclamation from the man, who jumps back in horror, the rock held above his head in one hand. I feel my bones cracking as they fuse back together and my joints popping as they readjust, blood seeps back inside wounds and my neck snaps back to its correct position. I guess it had broken too. The parts of my body that blood could not reach have been quenched, they swell with health and my muscles rejoice. Guess I'm all better now.
"SHE SHE SHE SHE SHE JUST... UHHH!!!" The bald man quivers, his mouth agape. He is at a loss for words. The hot robot man gasps, thrusting his arm back in a defensive position.
I arch my back. With my feet planted into the ground, I am able to lift myself, head rolled back, my core burning from the strain. My hair sweeps the ground, small pieces of rubble and dust drop like rain. I pause, my spine cracking from disuse, I hold myself in a standing position, rolling my head over my shoulder until it flops out in front of me, facing the ground, my bedraggled hair falling over my face, my torn gown observed by my eyes for the first time.
I am so so soooo hungry...
