This is the third installment to my Mafiatale fanfiction.

You're probably better off reading the first two - [Mafiatale - Living a life among Crime] and [What's Important] before reading this one, just in case there are things that don't make sense.

I know it took me awhile to get around to finally writing this one but... It's finally here. Heh. Hope there are actually some of you who have been reading the series that chose to stick around. ^^;

Truth is this has been sitting in my drafts since August 2019. Been sad I never got on with the third installment. So... Thought I'd try and give myself the push to do just that!

Please forgive me for any continuity errors I make, as it has been a long time since I visited this series. But I will try my best to keep things as precise as possible!!

Sans is a MONSTER and not a HUMAN, so he doesn't follow HUMAN biology like a HUMAN skeleton. Same with Gaster and Papyrus.

----------------------------------------------------

Ah, the fun of growing up; going to highschool. Sadly, every single person had to deal with the stress that was highschool. The pain of growing up, and meeting extra shitty people to add to the list of people that you utterly hated. From worse bullies to people that could only be described as horrible sociopaths. And it's not like the teachers were fantastically better. Some were nice, but a lot of them would only treat you as if you were a child again, being at the age where you could barely figure out how to put an arm through a single sleeve in a shirt, which was like the most simplistic task for any grown person. But as a child, that task was impossible, and if you found something impossible in highschool, that was how some teachers treated you. Like an idiot.

Don't get the teenage boy wrong, it wasn't all bad. After all, he didn't have to do all the growing up alone. He had his twin sister, who had done so much of that with him - they had been inseparable a lot of their lives, even if they could be as different as day and night, with the fact that he liked to dress in black; dark colours from head to toe, and she enjoyed throwing on bright pink shirts that screamed for people's attention to notice her and be her friend. She was a bubbly girl, friendly, and thoughtful. Just like mom. He however, had probably been more on their dad's side. Not that that was a bad thing.

"Hey, Leo, you realise it's probably not a good idea to space out in the middle of the hall, right?" A familiar voice had spoken up, lightly bumping his shoulder against Leo's, as he smiled widely at him. Oh yeah. And there was another person who he had known for as long as he could remember, since they were kids. Kyle. His best friend. Somehow, they had managed to stick together since they had known each other in kindergarten. He had been one of those few people who hadn't been frightened of him when he had outbursts as a kid. Heck, even when Leo was getting bullied for whatever reason, Kyle was always there to defend him, even if it got himself in trouble. Your girlfriend probably wouldn't appreciate that, Leo would always joke, if the brown haired boy with brown eyes would manage to get a black eye, or a bloody nose during a fight for him. Hey, we're best friends. We look out for each other. Kyle would always grin that typical closed eye smile, acting as if it was nothing. You're an idiot, sometimes. Leo might think. But even so, he was grateful to have people who wanted to be there for him to that extent.

"Oh, right." Leo snapped out of his thoughts, as he was strolling along with his hands stuffed into the pockets of his black hoodie. His books within his backpack made small flicker-y, paper-y sounds, as they shifted around within the confined space with every step. He kept quite a lot of things for school in his black bag - mostly school books, pens, pencils, headphones, even a couple of manga that one of mom and dad's friends decided to lend to Luna, and Leo had decided he'd like to read a couple, (even if he didn't want to tell the yellow dinosaur he read them, because he only knew she would want to ramble on about the books for hours on end). And it's not like her fish wife was much better off, as the two of them had this weird obsession for anime and over sized battle swords. Sometimes Leo questioned if that was the reason why they were part of the CIA, (yes, he had been briefly briefed on what their jobs were when it came up in conversation).

His mother had stayed, working at that little cafe she seemed to love so much, the place she had been working ever since him and Luna had been little kids. Honestly, sometimes Leo wondered why she didn't just move onto something that probably would have been more fulfilling than wearing some kind of silly maid's outfit, and serving strangers all day. But she seemed to enjoy the atmosphere of it all. Not to mention that she had friends there. She really got along with the managers, and her good friend Kai had even remained working alongside her, so that must have been a good enough reason as any to stay. Papyrus on the other hand had decided to move on from the cafe; with the push of his husband - Mettaton, (their wedding had been just three years ago, and it had been a wonderful ceremony. Leo could have even sworn he saw his own dad cry a few tears of joy, alongside his granddad - Gaster. They had obviously been extremely proud of him), and Papyrus had decided to take his cooking a step further, by working in a more "professional" environment. He managed to find his place in a pretty popular restaurant as one of the top chefs, which was pretty cool. He was happy for his eccentric uncle.

His dad and granddad on the other hand were a little more mysterious though. He couldn't tell if Luna was just deadly oblivious to it, going through life as if it was just sunshine and rainbows, (like she never wanted to grow up), or if she just played dumb, but there was always something that Leo felt that was weird about his dad's side to the family. Actually, it felt like almost everyone around them were sitting around on secrets they had to hide. Even people like Asgore, Chara, Papyrus... Anyone he knew, they all felt like they had some mysterious side to them. That, or he was completely imagining it, and had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. It might have just been paranoia kicking in, or his want to observe, and Sans had noticed that about him; how he liked to learn things from people just by watching them, and had even made a small joke, (ya must get that from your old man) was what he had said, talking about himself with a light chuckle.

It wasn't that he didn't trust anyone, however. Family life was great. His life was fine. He couldn't complain. But at the same time, sometimes it was difficult not to feel like for some reason him and Luna were being kept out of some kind of loop.

"You sure like spacing out a lot, huh?" Kyle teased, as he held one of his own books out to his side, as he walked alongside Leo. The skeleton with the black hair weakly smiled, as he made a small comment of something like that... He probably just liked to think a lot. Again, another characteristic he probably picked up from his own father.

"I was just... Thinking of how much has changed in the last 11 years." Leo weakly laughed, as he saw Kyle raise his eyebrows at him, before grinning once more, as he nodded in agreement. He didn't really remember much of his life as a 6 year old, well... Apart from his hate for kindergarten. And school. Just anything education related in general. It was probably what turned him into the quieter sibling out of him and his sister. The one who liked to dress in black clothing and not make many friends. He was content with the people he already had.

"Pretty weird, how we've known each other since being kids." Kyle pointed out with a laugh, before letting out a small sigh. "Now, as much as I enjoy the sentimentality, we should probably get to class. Would hate for Mrs.Potato head to chew our asses out again." Kyle chuckled, once again earning a small smile from Leo. That was their History teacher he was talking about, and her name was actually Mrs.Peterson. But everyone called her Mrs Potato Head just because of the way her face and head was shaped. That, and she was a horrible witch of a teacher. One of the ones he hated.

But even if school life sucked sometimes, he still couldn't complain.
