Sans is a MONSTER and not a HUMAN, so he doesn't follow HUMAN biology like a HUMAN skeleton. Same with Gaster and Papyrus.
AN - Sorry it's been awhile since a new part. Admittedly I wrote this part awhile ago, but couldn't decide whether this was where I wanted this chapter to go in the story, and then writer's block kinda kicked in again.
So just gonna publish it and hope it kick-starts something to start making me want to write more again. Because I really do like writing this story, and I do want to finish it.
----------------------------------------------------------Who would have thought this job would have been long term? He always thought he might have been a momentary replacement, instead of managing to be an 11 year long replacement - not that he regretted his choices at all, in choosing to take the position from Frisk Dreemurr. The woman whose life was falling apart as a result of choosing to try and take on the responsibilities of being at the head of the Mafia. But she had been much happier since she had stepped down. Especially since marrying his son - Sans. They had been married for 11 years now, (while their relationship had lasted roughly something like 18 years), and he wasn't sure he had seen anyone happier. Despite what had happened on their honeymoon...
James. Andrew's brother - he had attempted to attack the newly married couple while they were on a cruise, just trying to enjoy their time together as newlyweds. Despite Sans trying to hunt him down, he got away; jumped off the edge of the ship. It was soon after Gaster was told of this news, and he decided: we'll have to look out for this bastard. This guy tried to kill my son and Frisk and he didn't want to just let them get away with it - despite seeming so calm when James had dropped the news on his desk one day.
My twin brother tried to kill Sans and Frisk. Is basically what he had said. Something along those lines. But he also said: his fate is in your hands. Meaning, Gaster could do whatever he wanted to him. Whether that would be to kill him or let him go. Gaster wanted to do the former. However, even after all this time... After all these years... Countless attempts of trying to find him, figure out where he went, what he was planning, whether he was going to strike again...
Nothing.
Nothing at all. He had just vanished off the face of the planet. Like he never existed. The skeleton honestly questioned if he had died that day, when he jumped off the ship. Perhaps killed himself in the fall, maybe hit something on the way down - if the impact of the water hadn't been the thing to steal his life away first. Maybe he really was just... Gone. And wasn't something they had to worry about anymore. He hadn't attacked since after all.
If he was planning to make a return, he certainly was taking his sweet time with it. But chances were, James really was dead. Good riddance.
"Gaster? You've been standing at the sink, staring into space for 20 minutes now." A warm voice hummed from behind shyly, as he wrapped his arms around him with a light grin. Grillby, his husband, had been waiting for the skeleton in bed, so they could drift off to sleep together... It was just like the scientist to get lost in his own thoughts whenever he was left off on his own for too long. Sometimes it made Gaster question how the loveable flame monster put up with him, knowing he could just drift off into his own world from time to time. Sheepishly, the skeleton smiled, as he spun around to lightly wrap his arms around his partner's waist.
"Sorry... I didn't mean to take long to come to bed. I was just thinking about a couple of things." The skeleton smiled. Of course, his husband questioned what exactly it was that he was wondering about, so he just admitted honestly: a couple of things from the past.
"Oh yeah, I remember all the talk about that James guy... Always did wonder what happened to him." Grillby murmured in thought, as he readjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose. It's like all traces of him just vanished. Even Undyne and Alphys hadn't had a single clue, not that it was something they had given up on... You know what Undyne is like, once she latches onto something it's almost impossible for her to let go. I'll find that dirtbag, no matter what! Is what she said... Or something along those lines anyway. "You think he's dead?"
Possibly. Most likely. "Who knows?" Gaster sighed, as he glanced towards the ceiling in thought. Regardless of what happened to him, in the end it didn't really matter. Either way, he hadn't been around for 11 long years. "And who cares?" He added with a small chuckle, before spinning his husband around, so he could start lightly pushing them towards the bedroom. "Let's get some sleep." He said softly.
It was sweet. Even after being friends for so long, and then being married for this amount of time, the couple were still very much in love. The skeleton had climbed into bed, when he was down to a grey t-shirt and a pair of black shorts - because it was comfier for bed - and then when his husband climbed under the sheets with him, he happily allowed him to snuggle into his arms, up against his ribcage... Sometimes it did make it tough on hot nights in the summer, but a lot of the time, the skeleton monster really enjoyed the fact that his partner's flames made the bed all nice and toasty.
"Goodnight, Gast." Grillby said with a small, sleepy smile, as he closed his eyes and was ready to drift off to sleep... That shortened little nickname that Grillby had started giving him always managed to put a loving smile across the pale monster's face. He really did love the guy, so much. At one point or another, he had only loved the flame man as his closest friend... Sometimes, he wasn't entirely sure when he started to fall for him... But he knew that he didn't regret it. Of course, he wasn't the type of man to forget his first love. Lucida... Him and Grillby still sometimes went to put flowers down for her, together. After all, she had been Grillby's friend, as well as his wife before she sadly passed...
Her death really had ruined him back then. He'd never forget the devastation he felt. The cold dread, just looming over his shoulders. Even if they had known she was going to die, that she didn't have much time left, it had still ruined his life. He still hadn't known how to deal with it. How to feel. How to cope. He knew if he hadn't had Grillby, he would have fallen to pieces in all of that mess. He would have picked away at himself, and he really did believe that he could have turned into a real monster, if it wasn't for this man.
"Goodnight, dear." Gaster beamed, as he closed his own eyes to drift off alongside him... "I love you." He hummed, only to feel a million times warmer when he heard his tired husband return the words: I love you too...
So cute... That they always made sure to never go to sleep, without saying those words first. Because you never knew when it might be the last time that you'll say them. It was true for everyone. You never knew when your time was up.
So, it was always nice to show people that you care.
