Me: well, I hate to inflate your already-larger-that-Konoha ego, but... yeah.

Kiba: *pumps fist* Knew it! I'm irresistible!

Sakura: Shut up, Kiba. You're not.

Me: *sweatdrops* Sakura, be nice. Anyway, imma give you the story now, before she kills my darling dog boy.

"Did it hurt?"

"Did what hurt?" You refused to look at the boy next to you, keeping your line of vision on the path ahead.

"Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?"

You groaned, exercising all your self-control as not to beat Kiba into a bloody pulp. "Get lost, Inuzuka."

He pouted comically. "Why?"

"Because you're a freaking pain in the ass."

"...ouch."

"Good. Bye." You teleported home before he could respond.

Ahhhh. It felt so good to flop on the couch.

This was your daily routine. Wake up early, train, get ambushed by Kiba on the way back, teleport home, take a shower, eat and do whatever.

Speaking of which... bath time. You were all sweaty. Ick.

Twenty minutes later, you were making yourself a sandwich, when the doorbell rang. Grumbling about idiots interrupting your breakfast time, you pulled the door open to see Naruto.

"Hi, Y/n."

"Hey, Naruto. What's up?" He never swung by like this. You only knew him through Hinata. And your days together at the academy. And because he was the strongest Shinobi alive and was a shoo-in for Hokage once Granny Tsunade dropped dead. Or retired. Whichever came first.

He fidgeted with his sleeves. "Granny wants to see you in her office. In half an hour. She said it's mandatory."

"Ah... Okay. Is this about the...incident...in the dango shop?" You were desperately hoping that the owner of the shop hadn't taken her threat to 'report this disgrace to Lady Hokage, bless her soul' seriously.

"Eh? What happened in the dango shop?" He looked curious.

"That's... something best left untold. But is it about that?"

"C'mon, you can tell me! And I have no idea."

You exhaled. So you probably weren't getting into trouble anytime soon. Yippee. And now you had something to do!

Unless you were on cleanup duty at the dango place.

Twenty minutes later, you knocked on the door of Granny Tsunade's office.

"Come on in," a voice called back, so you did exactly that.

On entering you saw Kiba, Shino and Hinata standing facing the Hokage's desk.

Kiba winked in greeting, Hinata waved, and Shino acknowledged your existence with a small nod. You, meanwhile, waved back at Hinata, scowled at dog boy and bowed to Tsunade. "You wanted to see me?"

"Yes. You are going on a mission with Team 8."

"Um. Okay. What's the mission?"

"I want you four to scout the area north of the village. About ten miles from the village border." She pulled out a map of the surrounding forest and circled the area she wanted you check out. Everyone crowded closer to see.
