12 - Lake House

Later at 11 the door’s knocked and Daniel went to open it, revealing both of his parents. He let them in, greeted by Isla and Allyana who was sitting on the sofa and stood up. Then, to Thomas’s room they went to see how the boy was doing.

“Hello, Thomas.” Mrs Grayson said.

“Hello, Mr and Mrs Grayson.”

“How are you?” She asked.

“I’m fine.” He answered with a smile.

The three of them were left by Daniel who led them to his room and Daniel joined back the two best friends in the living room. They talked about how Thomas was, how he was able to finish his breakfast completely. No laughs this time. They all just feel devastated. Isla kept holding and giving her shoulder to Allyana who was very hit by this condition.

After the visiting hour, Daniel’s parents went home and Thomas called for Allyana.

“Hey.” Allyana greeted.

“Hey. I want to tell you something.”

“What is it?”

“It’s more of a question to be precise.” Thomas said holding her hand.

“Spill it.”

“Do you want to come with me to the lake house?”

“Lake house?”

“To live my last days.”

“Don’t. Say that.”

“Ok. To spend a few days. With me? Just the two of us.”

Allyana didn’t say a word. Instead, she nodded her head a couple of times.

Night turned to day, the moon disappeared while the sun rose shining the Earth. Daniel helped Thomas to move for the lake house. He drove both Allyana and Thomas to the lake house. A big house to be said, dominated by wood a terrace with two chairs and a table with a flower vase on top. Far from the town and just a few meters away from the lake with a dock by it’s side.

“Well, I guess that’s everything.”

“Thank you, Daniel.”

“You’re welcome. Oh! One thing before I forget. If something happens…”

“Call you. I know. I guess I’m ready for everything that about to happen here.”

“Ok. Bye.” Daniel gave Allyana a hug.

“Bye.” Said Allyana as she closed her eyes.

With that, Daniel left both of them to get some times alone for a few days, as Thomas wished. Allyana took a deep breath of the fresh air flowing in the atmosphere while closing her eyes at the same time. Then she got into the house.

“So, you mind telling me about this lake house?” Allyana started.

“It was my parents’. At least that’s what I was told by Mrs Pilony. Anyway it’s written on my name. So… it’s mine. I have never completely spent a night here. Just visited it and then back to the town I go.”

“It’s really amazing here.”

“Glad you like it.”

“What do you want to do this late afternoon, Mr Hendley?”

“First of, I’m starving. And then we can go to the dock, seeing the lake.”

“Food coming right up.”

Allyana cooked with ingredients from the full loaded cupboards, which by she was also surprised. After she finished, she went to get Thomas with his wheelchair and his tube alongside the oxygen supply. Allyana fed Thomas spoon by spoon, as she did the day before. Then, after she finished feeding Thomas, she ate her meal and cleaned the goods she used.

It was late afternoon so the two of them decided to go off to the dock. Allyana pushed Thomas’s wheelchair to almost the edge of the dock so they can get the best view of the lake and the surroundings. Thomas’s ‘velcro-like’ crackles breaths broke the silence of the surrounding.

“Are you happy?” Allyana asked.

“With what?”

“All this.”

“I am.”

Allyana showed a really big smile which made Thomas do the same since she had not been the happiest person for the last few days. They continued their talk about places each of them want to go. Allyana’s number one on the list is Italy when Thomas’s is Brazil.

The sun started to sink down, slipping behind the mountain, taking turn with the moon to rise up and shone the surface of the planet. After the sun was completely out of sight, and the moon had risen to it’s perfect spot, they went in to the house.
