I nudge the old warehouse door open with my boot, cringing as the rusty hinges let out an ungodly shriek. Guess I can say goodbye to any element of surprise that I may have had. Gun at the ready, I follow my flashlight beam into the shroud of darkness. I know that Sam told me to wait for him, but what can I say? I'm not a patient person, and he was taking too long.
I whip around to my right as I hear a crash in the distance. Muscles tense and ready for a fight, I carefully make my way toward where I think the sound came from. I scan my surroundings as I go, but find nothing. Mentally cursing what was probably nothing more than a diversion, I spin around to head back and come face to face with the djinn that we've been tracking down for the last three days. I act on instinct, forcing my hand holding the flashlight straight into the things face.
As it stumbles, I try to make a break for the door — and to where I wouldn't be at such a disadvantage — but miscalculate and trip over a pile of discarded metal piping. A searing pain shoots through my left side as I land square on the sharp edge of one pipe. Gasping for breath, I roll onto my back, ready to raise my gun and at least slow the djinn down until Sam can get here, but I don't get the chance. I see a flash of glowing blue eyes, and then nothing.
When I come to, I'm surprised to find myself still in the old abandoned warehouse. Last time I got whammied by one of these things, I woke up in a dream world. I shift to get up and groan in pain as my side protests sharply.
"Sonofabitch."'I breathe out through gritted teeth. "Come on, Sammy. Where are you?" As if on cue, I see a light shine through the door that I had left open. Footsteps soon follow, the beam of light swinging this way and that.
"Dean? You here?" He calls out, making me cringe yet again. What is he doing? He knows better than to announce your presence to a monster like that. Still, I lift my hand and wave as best I can as I call out a raspy reply.
"Yeah, over here!" Relief floods through me as I hear his quickly approaching footsteps. A moment later, he's crouching down beside me. When I look at him, I can see the disapproving glare on his face.
"Dammit, Dean. I told you to wait for me. What happened?" My face contorts in pain as my brother tries to help me up as carefully as possible. "Shit. We gotta get you back to the bunker and looked at." Sam comments as his hand comes away red. I've only just gotten to my feet and I'm already panting and out of breath. "Anyway. Explain, Dean." Sam insists.
I look around in confusion, not even entirely sure what had happened myself. "I don't know, man. I tripped over that pile of rusty metal, then came face to face with the blue eyed bitch, then lights out. I don't know why she didn't send me into dreamland." Sam wraps an arm under my own arms to help support me out to the Impala. The car Sam had borrowed sat beside her, and I'm sure he's gonna feel bad about just leaving it here, but I'm in no condition to drive.
I let out a shaky breath once I'm settled into the passenger seat. I catch Sam tucking a few bills onto the dash of the other car before locking it's doors and climbing into the car beside me. I don't bother asking how much he left, or where he got it from. As far as worries go right now, that doesn't even register.
"You know," Sam says as he starts the car and drives back to the main streets of town as carefully and bump free as he can, "Cas is going to be pissed." I jump at that, immediately regretting it. Screwing my eyes shut, I grit my teeth and try to steady my breathing until the sharp pain subsides a little.
"Cas is back?" I finally wheeze out. Sam looks over at me, startled.
"What do you mean? Did he say something to you about going anywhere before we left?" Now it's my turn to look confused.
