Prompt: Could you make a fic where AU!Dean meets our Cas? I think it would be so cool if AU!Dean was okay with his sexuality and was with Cas. It would be funny, too, to see AU!Dean flirting with our Cas.

(A/N: I am so sorry this is so late, and so crappy! I got caught up working on an angst heavy Merthur work on my AO3 account, and it used up all my emotional inspiration and energy. Better late than never??)

When Castiel was at the bunker, he could almost always be found in the library. When asked, his reasoning was that if the Winchesters called, he would be close enough to the texts to search for answers of he did not know them off the top of his head. What he wouldn't say is that he always found a sense of calmness in books. They held knowledge, and the books found in the bunker's library held the best knowledge of all. On this particular day, however, the angel was not happy to be currently sitting in the library.

Dean and Sam, along with Jack, had left not too long ago. Cas had assumed that he would be going with them, but Dean had pulled him aside and informed him that, that was not the case. The eldest Winchester had wanted him here, to babysit their house guests. They may have been... hunters where they came from, but there were still things in the bunker that the brothers didn't want their alternate selves getting into. The only obvious choice was babysitter had been Cas, much to his annoyance.

The bunker had been quiet since Castiel had bid his friends, his family, goodbye. He had instinctually drifted to the library just in case he got a call, but so far none had come. He also hadn't seen much of their guests, other than the odd time one of them would pop their head into the room to ask where something was. He sat in quiet solitude for about an hour before it was completely interrupted.

A very familiar voice cleared its throat, and when Cas looked over his shoulder, he would've sworn that Dean stood just a few feet away, had he not known the truth. This other reality's Dean stood before him, now dressed in one of his Dean's older flannels. He loosely held a full bottle of beer between his fingers, and his hair had been mussed up from its previous styled neatness. The one major difference, however, was the look on his face.

"Hey, Cas." He greeted, slowly moving further into the room and taking a seat at the table across from the angel.

Cas nods slightly. "Hello, Dean." He replies. He is unsure of how to interact with these two other Winchesters. He was very familiar with the two men from his world. He could read their body language, pick up what they meant to say in between the lines of their actual words. These two men, although familiar in appearance, were vastly different.

The new Dean studies him intently for a moment. "So, what is your role in this whole... operation?" Dean asks, spreading his arms to take in the whole library. Cas looks around for a moment, confused as to what the man was actually asking.

He tilts his head head to the side as he says, "I believe my Dean doesn't wholly trust you and your brother. I am here to keep an eye on you." He isn't sure if he was supposed to tell their house guests this, but what could it really hurt? His confusion only grows as Dean openly laughs. It's a nice sound that Cas doesn't hear his Dean make often.

"I don't mean right now. I mean in general. Your Sam is clearly the brains, while your Dean is the muscle. What is your role?" He asks. Cas finds himself reluctant to answer for some reason.

Instead of replaying, he asks, "What is my role in your world?" An interesting flicker passes over Dean's face as he looks Cas over.

"Clearly not the same as yours, unless I am mistaken." He replies enigmatically. Cas has no idea what that means. He squints his eyes further in confusion, trying to silently puzzle out the man in front of him. When he fails to do so, he has no choice but to verbally pursue more answers.
