Quick note: this is an elemental AU, around 89% of the population can control an element: water, fire, air or earth.
If someone commits a crime and they get caught, the goverment can weaken their powers. That's what happenes to phoenix after his disbarrment.

Phoenix wright had always been a heavy sleeper.

He'd gotten better as time passed, though. Now a peep was enough to drag him out of his slumber.

Phoenix became a light sleeper since the day he found trucy in the woods, her frail, lonely figure laying in a pool of her own blood. She looked peaceful, depite the red seeping in the earth and her clothes.

That was the first time phoenix met trucy, and luckily he found her soon enough to be able to heal her before things went out of hand. And he knew his daughter went through a lot, her frequent nightmares spoke volumes about things she preffered not to speak out loud.

The moment trucy'd step foot into his room he'd jolt awake for him to simply pull away his blanket and let her climb into his arms.

Tonight something was different though. It wasn't the tapping of bare foot, it was a knock on the door.

Quickly he kicked away the blankets, fumbling for his handgun in the drawer before he hopped out of his bed. He walked up to the door and pressed the barrel of his gun against the door before wrenching the door open, peeking at the intruder.

He went stiff when he recognized the man standing in the doorway, strapping the gun before stepping over to take a better look.

"Edgeworth?" Miles grimaced, his hand clutching at a bleeding mass on his right shoulder. "I trust you've been well, wright?" He muttered sarcastically as he stumbled, and phoenix had to grab into him before he'd fall.

"Edgeworth." He hissed, glancing at the hallway to check if trucy woke up or not.
When he found it empty he gripped the man's other unscathed shoulder, leading him into the livingroom.

Phoenix let him slump down on one of the couches, crossing his arms over his chest as he glowered at the other man.

"Explain." Miles managed to scoff in all his dazed and bloody glory, running a hand down his face.

"Enemies. Nothing to be concerned about." Phoenix's eyebrow twitched.

"Nothing to worry about?" He snarled, gesturing at the wound on miles' shoulder with a scowl. "You came to my doorstep at who knows when in the morning with a gaping wound on your shoulder and you still expect me to believe that?" He laughed, dragging a hand through his hair to calm himself down.

"Because this doesn't sound like something i shouldn't be concerned about." Miles shifted on his place, letting out a groan.

"The less you know, the safer you are." Phoenix scoffed.

"I had a girlfriend who tried to poison me for evidence. One of my friends seemed to love me so much he wanted to kill me." He gave miles a pointed look.

"Please, enlighten me. It can't be worse than anything i've seen in my life." Miles stared at him for a moment, and phoenix could see him fighting his emotions before he let out a defeated sigh.

"Alright." Phoenix huffed, slumping down next to miles. Without a word he helped the man take his shirt off, taking a look at the wound all while struggling not to blush like a schoolgirl.

"Don't think you can get away without an explenation." Phoenix warned him, pointing a finger at his shoulder. "You have a lot of things to say after you're not close to dying, you hear me?" Miles let out a sigh, taking his hand off his wound.

"Ok." Phoenix took a deep breath and rolled up his sleeves. "It might sting a little, but after that you'll be alright." Miles rolled his eyes.

"Who are you talking to? A child?"miles scoffed. "Get it over with." Phoenix nodded, deciding to ignore the snark in his voice in order to focus on his task at hand. He could roast miles later.

Phoenix reached over and placed his right palm on the wound, grimacing as the other man flinched underneath his touch.

"Stay still." He muttered, focusing all of his energy to the injury.

For a split second nothing happened but then his palm lit up in a brilliant blue hue, lighting up his dimmed living room with dancing flickers of blue light.

Phoenix smiled, letting his eyes slid shut as the energy in his body flew to miles, slowly mending the wound. It was a giddy feeling, knowing that you had the ability to mend wounds if you tried hard enough.

He'd grown weak these days. His disbarrment from his job resulted the goverment had been weakening his powers as much as possible, but it was good to know he wasn't completely useless yet.

The flow stopped, and phoenix opened his eyes to take a look. The wound closed up, leaving a jagged scar in its wake.

Like a stab wound, Phoenix's eyes narrowed.

Miles looked way better now, some of the color returning to his face as he glanced at the scar on his shoulder and back at phoenix. His face went grim, as if he recalled an unfortunate event out of the blue.

"You shouldn't have done that." Phoenix threw him a questioning look. "Done what?"

"Healing me." Miles crossed his arms, a shadow crossing over his face. "It takes too much energy healing a wound such as that." Phoenix waved him off.

"Don't worry about it." Miles gave him a look of disbelief before attempting to get up, only to fail miserably as he let out a hiss.

"You can't move without getting some sleep first." Phoenix smiled tiredly, and he knew miles could see the exhaustion in his eyes too.

"I can't move, either." He sighed, tilting his head to the side. "I'm too dehydrated and if i want to get some water in my system i'd need the energy." Before he knew it miles' arm wrapped around his shoulder, pulling him closer and phoenix let out a yelp.

"What are you doing?" Miles stared at him with an unreadable expression before averting his gaze to the side, and was that a blush on his cheeks?

"You are far more exerted than me." Miles said quickly in an attempt to explain. Phoenix blinked, and it seemed like he could understand as he nodded slowly, giving him a grin. He laid his head on miles' shoulder, tentative at first but when miles didn't flinched back he stayed there, snuggling into his side.

He felt a weight on his head, miles had placed his chin on his head. Phoenix let out a content sigh, he didn't know how much he needed this until now, and now...it was just so perfect.

He closed his eyes, each breath holding a silent wish to never let go as he slipped back into a deep slumber.

Though unbeknownst to him, the latter had just wished the same too.
