I open my eyes and I'm in a hospital room. I look around and notice my mom and Sid are passed out in the chairs next to my bed. "Sid? Sidney? SID!" Sid barely opens her eyes but once she does she notices I'm awake. "OH MY GOD! YOU'RE AWAKE!" Sid grabs my mom's arm gently, to wake her. "What? What? Is she awake?" My mom wakes up and looks at me. "Oh baby" she looks like she could cry. "Hi mom" my eyes begin to water too. Sid comes back with a nurse who asks me a bunch of questions. After I answer all of them the nurse turns to Sid "Okay, she can have visitors, but only two at a time okay?" Sid nods her head to show she understands and rushes out of the room again. She comes back with Gavin and Penelope first. A huge smile covers my whole face. "Heyyyy it's my little monsters!! What's up guys?" I see DJ and lily lurking in the doorway. "I can see you two. Come here guys" lily runs to me and jumps onto the bed. Penelope and Gavin are curled up into me and now lily is sitting on my legs with hers crossed. DJ slowly walks over to me. I can tell he's scared. "DJ it's okay, you're not gunna hurt me if there's more than one of you in here." DJ keeps his pace but he sits at the end of the bed. I see another head lurk in the doorway but this time the person is much taller. They submerge fully into view when I look confusedly at the door. "Who's there?" There's a bunch of light behind them making their body just a dark silhouette. Sid looks at the doorway and then back to me concerned. She walks over to me and whispers in my ear so the kids can't hear "Angel, there's nobody there." I look at her in disbelief. "No there's somebody standing right there. He's standing right th-" I go to point him out but suddenly the doctor comes in through the doorway, walking through the mysterious figure. "I- I- I swear to god he was right there Sidney. Someone was standing right there! You have to believe me!" I must sound crazy because my mom is scooping up the kids and taking them back out of the room. Sidney looks like she wants to believe me but she doesn't. She didn't see him. "Honey, you know I wish I saw what you did, but there was nobody there." My eyes begin to water again. "Sid, he was right there I promise. You have to believe me." My voice comes out all choked up. The doctor performs a small eye test on me and asks me the same questions the nurse did, just worded differently. The figure appears again during the doctors questions. "SID! HE'S RIGHT THERE! HE'S STANDING RIGHT THERE" I point to the doorway again and this time a nurse walks through the figure. "Why can't you guys see him?" My voice becomes weaker. The nurse adds something to the tube connected to my water bag. "Shhh, just calm down sweetie. Everything is going to be okay" I feel myself become more sleepy. I look over at Sid and she looks really scared. "He was right there. I promise. He was right-" I mumble as I fall back to sleep.
*a few days later*
I'm dreaming. I feel like I've been to this place before but I don't recognize it. I look around. I see someone standing off to the side with their back to me. "Excuse me. What is this place?" They glance over their shoulder at me and I can't quite place who it is. I feel like I've known for forever though. I can hear some voices talking but I can't tell where their voices are coming from. "She went through something pretty traumatic ma'am. We need to make sure she's completely stable before releasing her." "This is bullshit. I just want to take my baby home to her own bed." "Ma'am for legal reasons and safety precautions we really cannot let you." The woman begins crying. "Why did this even happen in the first place? She was doing so well." A new voice enters "there was some things happening at school. I'm guessing she didn't tell you about them?" The woman who I'm guessing is my mom must've shook her head because the third voice continues "well those kids she babysits, they go to our school too-" who is this person? Why did they just say our school? It doesn't sound like John or Ryan. And it most certainly isn't Sid. "-there was a stand off because of it and she got caught in the mix while trying to save the kids. She wasn't even supposed to be standing there. It was supposed to be me. But she insisted that I got in the car first and started handing me the kids. She made me promise they'd be safe." "And they are, are they not?" "They are, I just wish she would've let me be the one handing her the kids instead of what actually happened." "Well thank you. For coming to check on her. I'm sure she'll really appreciate it." Why can't I remember who this person is?
