Walking into school, I was excited. Beginning of senior year? Hell yeah I'm excited. I had a lot going on in my mind, but I was so excited for everything as it was my final year and then I finally get to leave this stupid town. I look around for my friends and I see some of my teammates from dance. I wave at them but I kept walking. I was looking for my best friends, Sidney and John. I spot them and head to them. "Hey guys" John had his group of friends with them as well. "Hey Angel" Sid smiles at me and hugs me. "How was your summer?" "It was good. Babysat a lot. Worked. Went to dance camp. You know. The usual. What about you?" Sid starts to tell me how she worked as a night janitor for the haunted amusement park across town when John's friends interrupt her.
"Look! What are little kids doing on this side of the school? Shouldn't they be on the kiddie side?" I look over in the same direction as the boys and I see DJ, Liliana, Penelope, and Gavin all wandering around and looking super confused with no adults around them. "Oh my god" I walk over to them and pick up Gavin tickling him. "Hey you lil monster, what're you guys doing here?" Gavin giggles and the girls hug my legs. "Mom said we go to school here with you because that's what your mom told her. But I don't think she's right." DJ states. I nod my head. "Yeah, there is a part of the building for you guys, but it's not this side. Come, I'll show you and we can find your guys' classes, okay?" The girls and DJ nod. Penelope takes my hand while DJ and Lily trail behind me holding onto my backpack straps. I lead them to the other side of the school and find the lists of classes, searching for their names. Once I find DJ and Lily's names, I take them to their classes. After that, I head over to the daycare section of the school and drop off Penelope and Gavin. Alana must've been in a rush this morning if she just sent the kids inside with no directions. I head back to the upper classmen section of the school and find my friends in the same spot I left them in. "What was that all about? And where did you go?" John asks me. "Those are the kids I babysit. They're newish to town so I'm guessing their mom didn't know there's two sections to the school." John nods and we all head off towards home room. Luckily, we all have the same one. After home room ends and we have our schedules, we all stand in a circle comparing our classes. Sid, John, and I have the same first period so we head over to it after separating from Johns' friends.
The day goes by kind of quickly. I'm about to head to my third period class when I see DJ wandering the halls. I have a feeling he's searching for me because there's no way he would just willing wander this side of the school when I know that, guys, especially, that are my age, scare him. I see the group of popular guys spot him and start to pick him out of the crowd. "Hey lil squirt, what're you doing over here?" I can't have them terrorize DJ. He'll never want to come back to school. I run over to him as fast as I can.
"DJ? What's up bub? What're you doing over here?" "They won't let us have lunch. Something about how we don't have money in our accounts? I-" "okay. Okay, cmon, lets go get it figured out. Okay? Let's go get you lunch." DJ nods and I grab his hand so nobody else can try to even terrorize him.
*in the elementary section cafeteria*
I spot Lily, Penelope, and Gavin all sitting together. I can tell Penelope and Gavin are tired. But I know they all have to be even more hungry. Especially since on the way over to the cafeteria, DJ said none of them got to eat breakfast because Alana was in such a rush. As I had figured. Luckily, I had some cash on me so I could pay for their lunches. DJ and I get over to the other kids and I pick up Gavin, telling Lily and DJ to go get a tray and pick out the food they wanted and that I'll meet them at the register. I take Penelope and Gavin and get them a tray of food as well. Afterwards, all of us head up to the register and I pay for the food. But not before I get a look at the screen. The lunch lady quickly hands me the receipt and gives me the stink eye for looking at the screen. I roll my eyes and walk with the kids back to the table, letting them eat. When they're all finished, I take Penelope and Gavin back to the daycare while DJ and Lily head back to their classes. I head back to my own class, or what's left of it anyway. On the way there, I notice people staring at me and whispering. I just ignore it and finish going to class. I remember that Sid is also supposed to be in this class but I don't see her right away once I enter so I just pick an empty seat near the back. Third ends and I head to my fourth class of the day. I sit near the middle, off to the side not disturbing anyone. Class begins and I have a weird feeling about it but I just try to wait it out and see what the weird feeling is. And then, it happens.
