A Week Later

Jack was on his way up to the children’s room to check they were packed when he passed Marilyn on the phone. He stopped and watched, she acted secretive and giggly.

“Marilyn?” Jack questioned.

“Not now Jack.” She snapped.

He rolled his eyes and headed upstairs. He was about to go into John’s room when he saw papers sticking out from the bookcase. He took them and went into his room. After shutting the door he looked at them. They were love letters to Marilyn from Joe.

He chucked them on the floor in anger. He got up and ran downstairs. He took the phone from her and slammed it down. “What are these?” Jack asked holding the letters.

“And you didn’t cheat on Jackie?”

“I gave it all up for this.”

“Well.” Marilyn shrugged.

Jack chucked the letters in her face and was about to storm upstairs when Marilyn stopped him. “No wonder Jackie’s getting married so quickly.”

“What?”

“It’s in the paper, she’s engaged.”

“To who?”

“Clint Hill.” Marilyn smirked.

Jack clenched his fists.

When his ex-wife arrived he stormed outside. “What are you playing at?” Jack yelled.

“What are you on about?”

“You can’t marry him!”

“Why not Jack?” Jackie asked.

“He’s not worthy of you!”

“And you are?”

Jack paused. He didn’t know what to say.

“Exactly, you can’t tell me what to do. You’re dead as is Marilyn.” Jackie snapped.

Suddenly the kids came running. They hugged Jackie. “Come on.” She helped them into the car.

“Bye Daddy.” John smiled.

Jack waved as they left. He felt jealous, something he hadn’t felt in a long time.
