Chapter One:
The Vanishing of Will Byers
Part One💗
"Something is coming, something hungry for blood." Teddy's twin brother, Mike, says. Teddy is paying no attention to the game, as she is too engrossed in her book. She pushes her glasses up as she continues reading the chapter.
"What if it's the Demogorgan?" Her friend, Dustin, asks. "Oh, Jesus, we're so screwed if it's the Demogorgan." He continues. Teddy looks up, suddenly interested in the conversation.
"It's not the Demogorgan." Her other friend, Lucas, argues. Teddy keeps listening. "An army of Troglodytes charge into the chamber!" Mike says, slamming the Troglodyte piece in the middle of the game board. "Aw, boo. I really thought it was the Demogorgan." Teddy pipes up, scaring Dustin.
"Yeah, me too Teddy." Dustin replies. "Wait a minute." Mike says suddenly. "Did you hear that?" He asks. "That...that sound? Boom...boom...boom!" He yells, slamming his hands on the table Teddy and the other boys to jump slightly.
"That didn't come from the Troglodytes. No, that came from something else." Teddy looks at Dustin before looking back at her brother. Mike slams a piece in the middle of the game board. "The Demogorgan!" All the other boys groan while Teddy just laughs. "You guys are screwed." She says.
"Yeah, we're in deep shit." Dustin exclaims.
"Will, your action!" Mike yells.
"I don't know!" He responds.
"Fireball him!" Lucas yells.
"I have to roll a 13 or higher!" Will replies.
"Too risky. Cast a protection spell." Dustin replies.
"Don't be a pussy, fireball him!" Teddy belts out.
"Cast protection." Dustin argues.
"The Demogorgan is tired of your silly human bickering!" Mike booms. "It stomps toward you." He says, looking around at the boys and his sister. "Boom!" He yells and Teddy jumps back.
"Fireball him!" Lucas shouts.
"Another stomp, boom!" Mike shouts.
"Cast protection!" Dustin yells.
"He roars in anger!" Mike shouts. Dustin and Lucas argue with each other over the game board.
"Fireball!" Will screams suddenly while throwing the dice.
The dice rolls off the table. All the boys fall to the ground to look for it, while Teddy goes back to her book.
"Oh shit!" Teddy hears Will whisper.
"Where'd it go?" Lucas asks.
"I don't know." Will says. "Is it a 13?" Dustin asks.
"I don't know." Will says again.
"Where is it?" Lucas asks, scattering everything on the floor.
"I don't know." Will says for the third time.
Dustin starts nervously pacing back and forth.
"Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!" He mutters.
"Mike! Teddy!" A voice hollers from upstairs. The twins don't reply. "Mike! Teddy!" The voice yells louder.
"Didn't you find it yet?" Lucas asks.
"No, I can't find it!" Will replies.
A few seconds later, Mike and Teddy's mother, Karen, opens the basement door. "Mike! Teddy!" She shouts at them and they look up quickly.
"Mom, we're in the middle of a campaign!" Mike says. "You mean the end?" She says, tapping her watch. "Fifteen after." Shen then turns around and closes the door.
"Why do we have to go?" Will whines. "Because it's a school night, duh." Teddy belts out. "We know that." Lucas replies in a 'duh' tone.
"Guys I found it!" Dustin calls from under the table. Will and Lucas dash over to him. Dustin hands Will the dice, and Will looks up at Lucas with a look of disappointment on his face.
"Does the seven count?" He asks.
"It was a seven?" Lucas responds. "Did Mike see it?" Will shakes his head. "Then it doesn't count."
Everyone else dashes for their coats, while Teddy grabs her book and heads upstairs to her room. When she reaches the top of the basement stairs, she gives her mom a smile, then continues down the hall only to have to go up another flight of stairs.
When she is finally greeted with the sky-blue walls of her bedroom, she takes her glasses off and sets them down on the dresser. She then takes her hair out of its ponytail, letting her dark brown curls cascade down her back. She turns around and looks in the full-length mirror to the left of her, staring at the reflection of her curvy figure.
Then her big brown eyes moved up to the freckles that dotted her face like stars in the night sky. She flops backward on her bed, letting out a sigh of defeat. "Why can't I be pretty like Jennifer Hayes?"
Little did she know, she would meet someone prettier than Jennifer Hayes.
