Chapter Four:
The Weirdo on Maple Street
Part Two💗
12:00 AM.
The bold numbers of the small digital clock on Teddy's nightstand emitted a red beam of glowing light on her face. She groaned while sitting up in her bed. She took a moment to compose herself before going where she'd always went after she'd had a nightmare or couldn't sleep—the basement.
Ever since she was little, that's where Teddy would go. Her mom was aware of this, so whenever she would go to wake her up for school and didn't find her in her room, surely enough, Karen Wheeler would find her daughter sound asleep on the basement sofa.
As Teddy stopped in front of the basement door, she noticed the lights had been left on. Shrugging it off, she opened the door, making sure to close it gently behind her.
Hearing the door click made Eleven jump, but when she peeped out of her fort and saw Teddy coming down the stairs, she calmed down. Teddy's eyes met hers, and she walked over to the fort.
"Sorry El, did I scare you?" Teddy asked.
"A little." El replied.
"Sorry. Well, I'm just gonna be over here, okay?" Teddy said, gesturing toward the brown sofa.
"Okay." El said.
Teddy made her way to the sofa, grabbed her fluffy, purple blanket, plopped down on the cushions, and got comfortable.
"Goodnight again, El." Teddy said.
"Again?" El questioned.
"I already said goodnight to you earlier, so now I'm saying it again." Teddy answered.
"Okay. Night again, Teddy."
That's the last thing Teddy heard before drifting off into a dreamless slumber.

"Teddy, wake up!"
Teddy woke up to her brother violently shaking her.
"Ugh, what?" Teddy replied groggily.
"C'mon, you gotta get up before mom comes down here looking for you!"
Teddy got up suddenly, realizing the fate of El if her mom came down here and saw her.
"Shit, you're right! We'll be right back El, okay?" Teddy said. El nodded her head in response, and the twins took off up the stairs.
