Chapter 16
"See? I told you I wasn't lying," I nervously quipped to the guards as a very angry Daxton finally made it up to the gate.
"Open these fucking gates before I rip them off," he growled. His eyes were swirling with the emerald color I had grown attached to even if it meant bad news for me.
They were quick to follow his orders but I almost wanted to take my chances with the bear shifters. I'm sure that fate would be much less cruel than the one Daxton currently had in store for me.
My last line of defense opened enough to let him through and without so much as a word I was thrown over his broad shoulders like a potato sack.
"Daxton, this is uncomfortable," I groaned as he stomped back to the castle.
His answer comes in the form of a stinging sensation on my derrière and I gasped.
He did not just do what I think he did, I internally screamed.
A little spanking never hurt anyone, Bry mocked me. My cheeks tinged pink at the comment. I couldn't believe she was making jokes about this!
Relax, Tay. It's not like he can actually hurt us. We just have to ride this out until he doesn't feel as threatened.
I pushed her out of my mind, not wanting to hear her excuses.
Daxton jerked to a stop outside the front doors of the castle and plopped me down in front of him. I could practically see the steam coming out of his ears. His jaw was clenched and every muscle in his body was wound tight.
"So you think you can run away and fuck some other male, then come crawling back?" He grabbed my chin and forced me to look into his blazing eyes. The fire that spread from where he was touching me had my senses going haywire. I wanted to hate how his touch affected me, but the truth was that I would give anything to always have his hands on me. It was exhilarating.
"I didn't-"
"Shut up," he interrupts, putting his hand over my mouth. "I didn't give you permission to speak."
He cocks his head to the side, observing me with a ferocity that had me wanting to dig a hole and hide in it. This was the first time I was afraid of the man in front of me. No matter how overbearing or possessive he had gotten I had never truly felt unsafe. But this? This was something different. It was as if a switch had flipped in his head.
"I've given you enough time and space to adjust to the shifter way of life. Down below, before we got up the mountain, I tolerated your disrespect. There was no one important to witness it, but up here is different. We're in the heart of everything our community stands for and you running off then coming back reeking of another male is intolerable. So tell me, little one, who did you go to for your pleasure? Because I'm going to make you watch as I kill them," he sneered. His hand roamed down my waist, gathering the shirt that adorned my body and sniffing it.
"I-I didn't do any such t-thing with anyone," I gasped. "My wolf and I had been locked in your stupid room for too long, we ached to stretch our legs. All we did was go for a run Daxton, I swear it!" I was praying to the goddess he believed me.
"How can you tell me that lie as you sit here with another male's shirt on?" He growled.
"There was a wolf," I quickly explained. "He warned me to get back to the castle because he'd seen bear shifters roaming around." I kept out the part that he'd been watching me. Daxton was already furious and my gut was telling me to keep Ret as much of a secret as possible.
