Chapter 6

I was locked in a room- his room, to be exact. The wooden red double doors that connected to the hallway were locked from the outside, my only other escape being the balcony. Just from looking at the cabin on the outside you couldn't even tell it was two stories so I was surprised to say the least. He was smart enough to lock those doors, too, though.

I sighed and adjusted the humongous sweatshirt that adorned my body, completely wrapping me in his woodsy scent (I had a feeling that was intentional). Climbing onto his king sized canopy bed, I wrapped myself in the animal fur blankets that were lying on top of the main dark brown comforter.

One thing I've learned about us wolf shifters is that we loved to wrap up in blankets and nest in them. I was no exception to this rule, especially since they all smelled like Daxton (shut up, he smelled good).

Evander told me that pregnant females will literally steal all the blankets in the house to nest while pregnant. Apparently, it's pretty funny to watch, Bry chuckled and a small smile spread across my face.

When I finally decided I was comfy enough, I took in the large room and all of its glory. There was a big walk-in closet to my left, a bathroom that was as big as my very own room next to it, and a door that led to Daxton's study where he did "pack business" (his words, not mine) to the right of the bed. A carpeted step led up to the bed I was on, making it the center piece of the room, and both a couch and recliner settled ten feet away in the "entertainment" section. That was where all of his game consoles and movies were. Typical boy. Two small wood night stands were by either side of the bed, and tucked against the closest left corner was a treadmill (I took note to stay away from it).

I think my favorite part about the room was the balcony, though. It sucked because I couldn't wander onto it, but the glass doors were level with the tree tops of the forest that started thirty feet away from the house. The sun was shining brightly in the distance and thousands of trees were scattered everywhere, only stopping for a mountain around ten miles away. The sight was something one couldn't get used to and Daxton got to wake up to it every morning. I could see why he wanted to add this second story to his cabin, his room was basically the entire second floor except for the little hallway outside leading to the stairs. It was extravagant yet simple and made a place where he could relax or work or do whatever he wanted and be left alone.

We could wake up to it every morning, too; you just need to give Dax a chance, Bry's voice floated through my mind.

I'm here nested in his blankets and wearing his clothes, aren't I? I grumbled back and she snuffed at me.

I wasn't trying to be ungrateful to him for saving my life or being nice to me, but it was easier this way. Mates weren't even a concept to me a week ago, and now I supposedly had one? My one wish of not being alone and someone loving me unconditionally had finally come true? No, because things like that were too good to be true. If I learned anything from living in foster care and having to defend for myself, it was that there's no such thing as a free lunch. Everything came at a price, and that included whatever the heck was going on with Daxton and I.

There was only four people in this world I could trust now- Mrs. Charlotte (although I guess she technically didn't count anymore), me, myself, and I. Everyone else was out to hurt me because the world was filled with not-so-nice people. Common decency died a long time ago and I'd had to adapt to the situation.

A knock sounded from behind the red doors and I dove into the blankets, only letting half of my blond head stick out to see who the intruder was.

"Luna? May I come in?" A gruff voice asked and I said a quick 'sure' even though I was pretty certain my name wasn't Luna.
