Chapter 3 (Third Person)
Daxton Thatcher couldn't believe his luck. When he got called about a possible nomad shifter trying to intrude upon his territory, he'd been furious. His mind was one track when it came to the safety of Tinder and its people. The only thought he had was to chase whoever dared to cross his borders away. So when he entered the diner to find not a random shifter, but his mate? He was dumbfounded; he didn't think shifters ever found their mates anymore.
"Come on. I'll drive you home," Daxton said to the small, adorable girl.
Mine! Mine, mine, mine! Daxton's wolf cried which had him well on his way to a horrible headache.
Daxton already knew what his wolf loudly kept proclaiming. He just had to figure out how he was going to explain being a shifter to Tay, let alone mates.
"Oh, that's quite all right, Sir. My house is only about five minutes away. Plus, I'm totally beat and just want to go to bed." Tay slapped some money onto the table and stood up, stretching her lean limbs. Daxton held back a groan when his little mate's shirt crept up and showed some of her soft looking stomach. He couldn't wait to plant kisses all along that area.
"I'm driving you home," Daxton said as more of a command than a suggestion this time.
He really needed to keep his mind out of the gutter since he knew the situation required patience- something he couldn't give if he was constantly distracted by the image of his mate writhing beneath him. The way Tay's small body will fit perfectly underneath him and how Dax will be able to keep her on edge for hours. Oh, he could barely wait to delve into the young woman and devour her like the wolf he was. Key word being barely.
Tay's shoulders slumped and she acquiesced. It gave Dax pleasure to know that his cute little submissive mate was already doing as she was told. Whether Tay knew it or not, it was a sign that they were meant to be together. Joy filled Daxton to the brim as he thought about having this beautiful girl to himself forever. Out of all the people the Goddess could have chosen to be Tay's mate, it was Daxton. He couldn't be more thankful.
Dax reached into Tay's back pants pocket and pulled out the small woman's car keys, adding an innocent little caress of his mate's beautifully taut ass. Tay jumped a bit and took a step away from Daxton which had his wolf whining in annoyance.
"P-Please don't do that. It's an invasion of my privacy!" Tay tried to sound stern but Dax knew better. The blush that spread across Tay's flawless face was proof enough that Daxton's presence affected her. Goddess, I will love this woman in a matter of no time, Dax thought to himself.
They walked out of Ms. Colleen's Diner side by side and into the quiet, cold night air. Dax saw the woman next to him shiver and he stopped himself from getting into Tay's personal space to rectify the situation. If things were different then he would have taken his mate into his arms and reprimanded her for not bringing a jacket. Daxton sighed because of the restricting confinement of their relationship at the moment (if one could call it a relationship).
Tay hopped into the passenger side of her truck as Dax slid next to her. "What about your motorcycle? How will you get home?" Tay inquired and Dax started the engine.
"Don't worry about me. I can just run back to my house," Daxton finally answered once he pulled onto the main road.
"Run? Why would you-" Daxton looked over and sees realization dawn across his mate's features. Having not been around other shifters in her life Tay didn't know the norms of their species and that made the older wolf sad. How was he to even begin explaining their kind to her? Would she freak out and run away? Or take it in stride while letting Dax into her heart as well?
