Chapter 2
The drive from North Carolina to Oregon was long, but I liked it. All the scenery was breathtaking so I loved to open the window and feel the wind on my face (more my wolf side did than me). She was asking me to do it constantly and I simply couldn't refuse her.
What struck my eye the most was the beautiful mountain that looked over the town of Tinder. Halfway up there were clouds completely covering it all the way to the top, so there was no way of knowing how tall it was. It was like a strong, silent protector and make me more confident feeling like something was watching over me.
The movers had already put everything inside of my new house by the time I got there and I was thankful that I didn't have to talk to them. Conversing with other people wasn't one of my strong characteristics.
Opening the faded red door to my new home was like a breath of fresh air.
I own this place. I will never be homeless again! The thought brought tears to my eyes.
I studied the small three bedroom, two bathroom house and sighed in contentment. It was perfect. Just the right size for me, not a room too big or bathroom too small. The kitchen was also pretty big and my mind wandered to all the possibilities it opened since one of my passions was cooking.
With a quick nod of appreciation I rummaged through a box filled with my clothes then grabbed a T-shirt and jeans to begin working in. The place hadn't been used in quite sometime and was going to need some TLC, that was for sure. I began unpacking the family room first so I would have a place to sleep. It was the only room that had carpet and I had yet to buy a mattress which meant, for the sake of my back, I'd rather sleep in there until I'd purchased one.
I didn't notice as the sky began to darken and right before the sun went down I switched on a lamp then sat down. How long have I been unpacking for? My stomach started to grumble in response and I concluded that it'd been too long.
A sigh of irritation escaped my lips as I realized I was going to have to go into town for food. My cute little abode was about five minutes outside of Tinder and completely secluded and peaceful, just how my wolf liked it.
We can run for days out here! She howled joyously in my head. It startled me hearing her talk, something she had never done before. I didn't mind it, but if she was going to talk more often I would definitely have to get used to it.
I shook away the crick in my neck then raised my sore body up. Food wasn't going to appear itself so I might as well get it over with.
Sending a silent prayer to whoever was listening that the people in Tinder won't be too judgmental, I drove from my comfy home and into the Lion's Den. And yeah, interacting with people was literally like jumping into a den of lions for me. Everyone I've ever had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting (except Mrs. Charlotte, of course) had been crude, cold, and calculating all the way around. Why would I want to interact with people when they were all like that?
Now, instead of being called a homeless gutter rat, people thought I was weird because my personality often fell short from being underdeveloped. Add to the fact that my growth was stunted, making me look way younger than I am, and it was a recipe for disaster.
I was five feet tall which is totally within the normal girl height range. Sure, I had to show my ID to get a scratcher, and everyone always asked me if I was lost, and people loved to pinch my cheeks, but I swear it was like they had never seen a young girl who technically wasn't even that young before.
A sign that read Ms. Colleen's Diner caught my attention so I pulled into the parking lot. Hopefully the food will be good here. My wolf and I are both famished from this exhausting day.
