Aqualad (Aquagirl Companion)

I looked down at the small bundle I held in my arms before looking to the one Calvin held. "Perseus and Kaldur'ahm," I said. "Perseus Psyche Durham for our daughter. Kaldur'ahm for our son."

"My love, they are not-" Calvin stopped talking as I glared at him.

"Calvin, they will be raised by you. They are your children."

"And what of their possible biological fathers?"

"We raise them without that knowledge. If they are David's children, I do not want him in their lives. And if they are Poseidon's they would be in danger if they know." I cradled Perseus close to me. The younger of the twins was smaller than her brother, which worried the doctors but they cleared her so I could bring her home. "Did you speak with our king?"

"I was about to, but then I recieved the message that you had went into labor. I left immediately, but the currents were too rough to traverse."

Perseus began crying and I gently rocked her. I fed both of them moments ago and I had to change their diapers before Calvin returned. "Bring Kaldur'ahm here, Calvin."

Calvin sat infront of me, letting Kaldur'ahm float in the water while still supporting his head.

I moved Perseus to float beside her brother supporting her the same way, almost immediately she calmed.

"That is odd. What happens if-" Calvin moved Kaldur'ahm away and he began crying. The moment he was moved back to his sister, his crying ceased.

"They did not do this earlier." I commented.I pulled Perseus back towards me, gently rocking her and singing a lullaby. I offered her a finger and her small hand wrapped around it. I continued to sing until she had drifted to sleep, at which point I traded her for Kaldur'ahm. I sang the same lullaby until he too drifted to sleep. I stood up and carefully swam to the nursery. The room housed two cribs, each which had a mobile slowly rotating above it. I laid Kaldur'ahm down so he could sleep. Calvin did the same with Perseus.

I sighed. Peace and quiet. And now that Calvin is home, I will not have to do everything myself. "I am going to take a brief nap before they wake." I swam to our bedroom. I laid down and right before I fell asleep, I heard someone call from the main room of the house. I sighed and got up, swimming out. I had hoped it was only a neighbor visiting. Then I could simply tell them I just got the kids to sleep and I wished to take advantage of that fact.

Unfortunately, the visitor happened to be someone I could not as easily dismiss.

King Orin stood in the midst of the room, a basket tucked under arm.

"My king." I greeted. "What brings you to our household?"

"May I see the children?"

"They are asleep. I just got them to sleep." I rubbed my eyes. "Hopedully things will be better now that Calvin has returned."

The king nodded before offering out the basket. "There are some outfits, diapers, and other things you may need."

I took it and offered a small thanks. I stared at him.

"What?" He asked.

"You are not going to leave without seeing them are you?"

"I mean, I swam all this way and I do not know the next time I will be in Shayeris."

I chuckled softly before waving for him to follow me. We entered into the nursery and he swam to the crib where Kaldur'ahm slept. Then he moved to look at Perseus.

"They are Manta's children?"

"They will be raised thinking Calvin is their father. I do not want David to have anything to do with my children." I avoided explicitly saying there is the possibility they are not. To have him know they may be Poseidon's children, that would prevent them from ever having a normal life.

"And if they discover the truth?"

"We can only pray they do not."

We stood in silence until the king spoke again.

"What did you name them?"

"The boy is Kaldur'ahm and his sister is Perseus."

"Perseus is a male demigod."

"And according the research I did on baby names while on the surface, Ashley was originally a male name which is now used mainly for females." I sat the basket on the floor. "My king, I do not mean to be rude, but I wish to get some amount of rest before my children awaken. I am sure Calvin would be glad to speak with you, as he said he missed his audience with you as he was trying to return here."

"That sounds like a good plan Sha'lain'a. Enjoy your nap."

"You know I will my king."

The king swam out of the room before me. I did not leave immediately after, instead staying long enough to notice the change in the water. "I will appreciate it if you can look over them while I sleep." I smiled before swimming out of the room. I laid down in my bed. I pulled a blanket up over myself and closed my eyes. I could hear Calvin and King Orin speaking in the other room.

I know Poseidon wasn't actually in the nursery and I highly doubted he was actually going to look after the children. But for some reason, just the change in the water was enough to make me feel more relaxed.

I breathed out and I slowly drifted off to sleep.

So in case you couldn't tell, some of this is going to be set before Aquagirl and the chapters when they're really little are not going to be in their point of view.
