Artemis and Robin dodged around each other, and I made mental notes on which each of them needs to improve on. I watched Artemis and Robin fight. Robin ducked under Artemis's arm and landed a blow to her back. Artemis hit the floor.
Artemis Fail
"Good job." Black Canary smiled at them. She looked at me. "Kaldur, you and Percy will be fighting."
A smile crossed Percy's lips, while a frown tugged at mine. We moved to stand across from each other. The computer announced the beginning of the fight. Neither of us moved, and I knew it would be up to me to strike first.
I lunged forward, attempting to land a punch. Percy attempted to dodge, but my punch landed on her shoulder. She grimaced and launched into a counter attack. We traded blows. I looked for any opportunity to knock her down. I feinted to the right and tried to punch her.
My plan backfired. The same attack that was meant to catch her off guard, allowed her to flip me.
Aqualad Fail
"I always have been the stronger fighter," Percy said. She stared down at me with a smirk.
I stood up and dusted off my jacket. "Yet you are always the one to almost always ruin an operation."
Percy glared at me. "Without me, you would have been dead ten times over, Fish Head."
I almost snorted at the name. If Mother knew she called me that, she would never leave her room again. However, I managed to keep my expression steady. "Without you I would have never been in the situation to begin with. Honestly, how I ever dealt with you is beyond me."
"Break it up. You two need to work through your differences before Percy goes out in the field." Black Canary placed a hand on my shoulder. "Every mission you have always goes from covert to blowing up buildings and I doubt arguing will make that any better."
"Of course." I nodded, glancing at Percy. We are not done with this conversation.
"Connor, Wally. You two are up."
Almost as soon as they began their fight, I walked towards the living room. I need to clear my mind and think of ways to get Percy to leave.
I had barely sat on the couch when Percy sat on the arm next to me.
"You have gotten stronger," she said.
I didn't spare her a full glance. "You should not be here, Percy."
"Why?"
"Because you are a liability," I growled. "Everytime you attempt to help, you end up making things worse. I am trusted to keep this team safe and I do not want or need unnecessary risks such as yourself."
She knows I'm not wrong. She knows how much damage, how many deaths she causes.
Percy grabbed the remote and turned on the television. One of the news channels Robin had directed to this input was playing footage of body bags being removed from a crime scene.
"-six bodies recovered from a destroyed temple in Greece. The cause of the-" Percyturned the channel. I looked at her and I saw tears falling down her face.
"-stab wounds, burns-"
"-appear to be teenagers, possibly tourists who-"
She kept flipping through the channels; the story was on all of them.
"Do you only have the news?" Her voice shook.
I grabbed one of the other remotes and switched the input.
"Thanks." She wiped her eyes.
Swallowing, I stood up. "You need to stop being so overemotional. They were simply some teenagers."
I walked away, leaving Percy to cry. It physically hurt me to leave my sister there and not attempt to comfort her, but it is for the best. If she sticks around, I fear my friends may join those six teenagers in the afterlife. I fear that I may be among them.
I walked to my room and sat at my desk, struggling to read through mission reports. Time seemed to fly by, before I knew it over an hour had passed. I had made almost no progress on the stack of papers in front of me.
I ran a hand over my hair, staring at the aforementioned papers. Crossing my arms on my desk, I rested my head on them. It is no use. It is hard enough to read English when I do not carry thoughts of those I care about dying. When I do not need worry about those around Percy because I do not know them.
I learned my lesson about becoming close with her friends. The friends we share below sea are a different matter. They may have been victims of attacks, but none of them have died. None of them have died because of Percy's carelessness.
Perhaps I should get Mother involved.
I quickly banished the thought from my mind. Mother will favor Percy over me, as will Father. They will not understand the danger she poses. All they ever see is the danger is in.
A loud sigh left my lips and I got up. Perhaps a snack will help me relax. I headed out to the kitchen, with the full intention of returning to my room with a granola bar or a piece of fruit.
Trays of cookies floated in the air, most likely to prevent Wally from consuming all of them. Percy laughed and jumped up to grab a cookie. She handed it to Wally.
"Here you are," she said.
"Thanks sugar." He flashed her a smile and winked at her. I growled softly and glared at Wally.
I wonder how long it would take for him to drown?
Percy must have heard me, because she turned around. Upon seeing me standing there with my glare still set upon Wally, she rolled her eyes.
"Choke on a cookie Fish Head."
