"Be careful okay Sho?"

"Come on... I'll be fine. Don't worry Zashi"

A steady heartbeat continued to fill the room in the form of beeps from the heart monitor next to Shouta. It wasn't the first time Hizashi had been in this position, crying his eyes out in a chair next to his husband who was one step away from being on life support, but that didn't mean it was any less terrifying. It was only made worse by the fact Hizashi knew it was his fault. He knew this would happen if he didn't do what they asked. He just thought for a moment that... Maybe it was an empty threat meant to scare him... But no. Hizashi didn't give them what they wanted and Shouta was the price. Hizashi distinctly remembered getting the message from Shouta's phone.

'Second strike'

It may not have made much sense to anyone else had they got the message or seen it, but to Hizashi it meant that he couldn't refuse their demands again. Ever. Or else Shouta would get hurt. No. He'd be killed. Hizashi didn't want to risk that. Of course, it was Detective Tsukauchi's first guess that Hizashi was at fault for Shouta's state. Hizashi didn't even disagree with or oppose the detective. It was his fault. He knew that.

"I'm going to ask you a series of questions. Tell the truth. I can tell if you're lying." Naomasa told the blonde, having taken him off to a room in the police station. "Now. Do you know who did this to Aizawa?"

"No."

"Lie. Do you know why they did it?"

"No."

"Lie. Do you have personal ties to the individual?"

"No."

"Lie. Do you know their name?"

"No."

"Lie. Was it a villain?"

"Yes."

"Lie...?"

It was then the detective stopped to look at the hero in confusion. It had to be a villain! A civilian couldn't...

"Was it someone known as a hero?"

"...Yes."

"Truth... Was it a pretty well-known hero?"

"Yes..."

"Truth... Do you know them on a personal level?"

"Yes."

"Truth."

Seemed Hizashi had given up on lying.

"Have you ever caused your partner harm intentionally?"

Hizashi was quiet for a moment.

"...Yes..."

"Truth. Why?"

Hizashi broke down into tears, unable to stop himself. He hated the reason. It seemed ridiculous. The detective would never believe that. Hizashi wouldn't be lying though. It was his reasoning. However stupid it may have been. It wasn't a good reason. It really wasn't. But a reason it was. However, Hizashi couldn't say it. He probably never would. Especially not to the detective that had been against him from the beginning. He wouldn't even say it to Shouta so why would he say it to him? All of this was just way too stressful for Hizashi. He now had to teach, do hero work, answer all the kids' questions regarding Shouta and... That.
