Sicilia, Italy
Lorenzo
I grunted, as a pool of sweat formed on my forehead. My hands shivered as I held a knife and examined the bullet just below my ribcage. It stung and hurt badly, making me hurry up with trying to pull it out. I took long and deep breaths, before putting my tie in between my teeth. It grunted my muffles, while my hands pressed the skin around the bullet, making it stuck out a bit. My eyes blurred slightly, making my head spin. I was losing blood and the pain was holding me back from getting the bullet out. I blinked my eyes several times, trying to gain back my vision. It didn't seem to help, but I used my knife to press out the bullet. It stung badly and I could feel it drag my skin out with it. I was sure that I wasn't doing this right, but I didn't care. I had been doing this for the last five years, I was used to it by now.
It took several grunts and pushes till I had the bullet in my hand. I bandaged up the wound pretty poorly before I washed the bullet. And just like I had thought, the name carved in it, stood out like a sore thumb; "LEE". Anger raised in my body, clouding my mind. I pushed away all the pain and put on a new white shirt. I ditched the blazer as I took long and powerful strides to the living room. "ASCOLTA!" I shouted as I walked into the packed room. The boys scurried away and stood silent alongside the wall. No one dared looking up or talk for that matter.
"This is why I expect everyone in the gang to do their job to the best" I seethed as I threw the bullet to one of the boys, who catched it effortlessly. He examined it like I had, and I could by the raise of his eyebrows know that he had understood my point. I saw as he gave the bullet to the guy beside him, for everyone to see. "The bullet is from the Chinese. Lee is the current leader after his father passed away and it seems to me that he has forgotten our alliance to his father. He is trying to take over by attacking us first, having in mind that we are the biggest underworld drug business" I explained to the guys, who nodded their heads almost automatically.
"I want every fucking guy to bring the money they have hid away to the mansion tomorrow. We will still continue with the drug deliveries, a bullet doesn't stop the Morettis" I told them, waiting for someone to question me. No one did, as usual, to which I walked out of the warehouse and into my car.
Sicilia was great. Being back in Italy had been the best for me and I didn't regret the decision for even a minute. The drug business had been my focus for the last five years and it did really pay off. The Morettis had been the first gang after Cosa nostras fall to rule over Sicilia again. After the death of their leader, the gang members had broken omerta and pointed their fingers at each other. The secret of who was in the gang was out and the respect of the mafias was dragged in the mud. That was the time my gangs income shot up. The Morettis became the one and only gang to sell drugs and do it with a low profile. I didn't recruit new members in the gang, having in mind that omerta been broken before. My men were loyal and above all, family. They had helped my father through tough times and I believed that they would do the same for me.
I hadn't returned back to England either. Scar was in charge over taking care of the business there. it was a lot to do and I had chosen to have an assistant. Scar was the only man I knew could take care of my work. He had been with me for a long time and knew how I worked. We talked occasionally on the phone about business and familia. Everyone was doing good, to my knowledge. Sara had tried to call me, but I never picked up. I didn't want her to know what I had turned into. Everyone in the gang knew that I had a hand in the previous leaders' death. It wasn't a secret that I had helped with the money to buy the bombs which were used to blast the guy. Scar had told me that Sara had heard the news and was worried, but she didn't need to be. She wasn't my mother.
I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel, my silver finger making an annoying noise when it tapped against it. Bella had been stored into the back of my mind, where I would never dig back the memories with her. I had completely broken all my ties with her and was rather proud of myself. The choice had been hard, and I hadn't dealt with it good. Actually, I didn't deal with it at all as I went on a homicide mission, killing every enemy I had. Let's just say, things are a lot easier when you don't have a life to protect.
I parked my car outside the police station and walked in with my head held high. People who saw me, scurried away. I was mentally thankful that I didn't have to wait in line. The line automatically vanished in front of my eyes as I set a foot in the building. I didn't smirk, chuckle or smile. My face was blank and my eyes stone cold. The officer saw me and immediately stood up from his chair.
"Moretti, to w-what to do I owe t-the pleasure?" the pussy stuttered in front of me. I quirked my eyebrow at his question and slammed the newspaper on his table. I could hear some kids cry and hide behind their mothers, to which I so badly wanted to roll my eyes. "You really do have a death wish don't you, officer Rivera?" I asked lowly, watching him squirm slightly.
On the front page was a large photo of nine of my men in handcuffs who were kneeling on their knees. They were wearing masks to not reveal their faces. The title was even more amusing for me; Italian Mafia; Cocaine smuggling, white washing, murder and violence- the Morettis. I would have laughed on his face if my rib cage didn't have a rather large hole in it. "I don't have anything to do with the newspaper, sir. You should talk to the journalist" he spoke with hesitation. I stared at him with a clenched jaw, wondering if he really could be that stupid. He looked down at the ground as if that was the most beautiful thing he had seen. "You fucking bastard, a journalist doesn't dream of my business and whereabouts. Nine of my men were taken by you and your stupid rats when they were delivering an important parcel. Do you know what fucks ups like this cost me, officer?" I asked him, plopping myself on his chair. He cowered away further into wall as if it could side him from me. "I-I will release them as soon as I can Moretti" he quickly breathed out as I took the beer from his desk. It was the cheap kind that tasted like metal. Fucking cheap skank
"Of course, you will" I scoffed at him, watching fearful eyes look down at the ground in front of me. None of them dared looking up, not even the police men. They knew better. "I don't pay you additional money to rat me out Rivera. I expect you to let my business run smoothly. You see my men, you look away. Nothing more than that" I told him calmly, putting the beer back in its place. He nodded quickly as a sign of agreement. "Oh, and before I forget, you will find some of the Chinese men dead in an ally tonight. I didn't do it" I muttered, patting his back.
Seeing as my job here was done, I stood up to walk out of the station. But before I could do that, I turned around to give him a heads up; "I almost forgot your punishment" I spoke loudly, holding my gun and aiming it at one of the officers behind me. It didn't take a second thought before I pulled the trigger, watching his lifeless body thud on the floor. I winked at him, walking out and leaving the station that was filled with screams and cries.
