The steam-train whistled, its metal wheels screeching to a halt outside the station. People poured from the open doors, men carrying rectangular suitcases of every shade of grey and black, the women bunching their thick, lengthy skirts in their hands as to not get caught in the wooden planking below.
"Oh, how lovely. You can see the castle from here, Master Myungsoo." Amid the bustling crowd, two men, so different from the humans there, yet they blended in completely, stood at the train's doors, stepping onto the thick platform beneath them.
"Indeed, Moonsoo. Indeed." The young wizard stared in awe at the castle, as though he never had before. Myungsoo supposed that, with his short life, he truly hadn't been very far yet. He let out a small sigh as they eased their way through the crowd. He drew his hat over his eyes, wincing at the bright sun that afflicted them.
When they left the train station, the castle, so invisible to mortal eyes, only grew bigger, even when it was still far into the woods. His heart heavy with dread, he looked away. "Thank you for coming with me," he said softly, and the wizard startled, his eyes going wide.
"But of course, Master Myungsoo! I can only thank you for agreeing to take me along. I don't think the Elders would have let me leave the Coven if not for your request," he blurted before his cheeks coloured and he looked away, embarrassed.
"They still think you're too young?" Myungsoo asked, the ghost of a smile playing on his lips, his eyes shining in amusement. Moonsoo grumbled under his breath, and the vampire took that as affirmation. "You wizards are so strange. By human standards you are an adult, and yet..."
"I have to be at least fifty to leave the Coven on my own." It sounded more like a whine than a fact, and the wizard soon regained his composure, already reddened cheeks darkening.
"That is indeed a long time from now," Myungsoo hummed and chuckled quietly to himself. "However, I suppose, it is a quarter of your life." The wizard could only shrug at that.
"Park Myungsoo?" The two men looked up, conversation halting. There stood three men, most likely guards from their apparel, and the swords they kept at their hips – though Myungsoo doubted any of them would ever need a sword to fight. Not when their fangs were sharper than any steel, and bodies faster than a horse.
"That is I." He stepped forward, and they bowed slightly, before narrowing their eyes on Moonsoo. The vampire quickly moved to stand between the wizard and the King's guards, his stance regal and composed, expression almost impassive. "He is my guest; my steward." They stepped back and bowed again.
"Very well, milord. We shall guide you to the Crimson Castle, now." The two companions exchanged glanced, and the pit in his stomach only growing, he took the first step forward, towards the woods, towards the castle. Towards his nearly-sealed fate.
