PRESENT DAY
"I can't believe you convinced me to come here," Jisung whined, but Felix merely stuck his tongue out at him. Hyunjin looked around, his expression a mix of awe and disgust. They walked down a crowded sidewalk, sweaty bodies bumping into them more often than not, and the smell of that much body odour was slowly murdering Jisung's nose.
Not to mention the sewage, the gas, the bins of trash that he could still smell, even when they were hidden deep in alleyways.
"Shut up, you ass. It'll be fun." Hyunjin and Jisung exchanged doubtful looks before they shrugged. Felix's eyes lit up as they landed on a coffee store; Jisung had been there before, though not often. Whenever he came into the city, it was always while on missions. Other than that, he much preferred the packhouse to... this.
He cleared his thoughts, because maybe Felix was right; maybe they would have fun if he got past his paranoia of the humans figuring out what he was, and the stench. "Who's getting coffee? Not it!" Felix shrieked.
Hyunjin startled. "Not it!"
"Not i– dammit." Jisung grimaced before he sighed. "What do you want?" He had a hard time remembering Felix's order, it was quite strange, to say the least, but all Hyunjin wanted was a coffee, with nothing in it. He didn't know which was worse.
"My friend works here. If Minho's working, tell him you know me." He winked. "He might give you a discount." The two wolves pushed him towards the coffeehouse – Starbucks, the sign said – but all the while, Jisung pondered over why the name Minho sounded so familiar.
As soon as he made it to the front of the line, he got his answer. Minho blinked, as if surprised to see him, too. Then he smiled. "Welcome to Starbucks, what can I get you?"
"A tall...?" When Minho nodded, he continued. "A tall black coffee, and a, um..." He scratched the back of his head. "My friend Felix says you know him, do you know what he usually gets? I... forgot." He laughed awkwardly, and Minho snickered before nodding again, punching in the order. "And a..." He scanned the menu for his own drink. "Surprise me."
Minho's eyes lit up, a mischievous grin pulling at his lips. "Are you sure you trust me enough?" His voice was sweet, he realized, but there was an edge to it that made his face pale.
"Well, uh–" He was about to change his mind, now; oh, Moon Goddess, what was he about to be given?
"That's all?" He nodded in response to the question. "That'll be fifteen dollars and forty-five cents, please." Jisung handed over the money, and the barista turned to make his drinks.
The werewolf made his way to where a handful of other people waited around a rounded counter, figuring that he was supposed to wait there. Hyunjin and Felix chatted animatedly outside, sitting on a nearby bench, and he glared at them, hoping they would see him.
Minho placed a simple paper coffee cup with Hyunjin's order in front of him, followed by a pink drink in a plastic cup with a straw; he figured that was Felix's. His eyes doubled in size when Minho put down his drink on the counter.
It was the most ginormous thing he'd ever seen; a strange brown-ish slushy with mounds of whipped cream piled on top. Different types of syrup were sprinkled atop it, and strange garnishes, too. People around the counter either snickered quietly at his drink or stared, dumbstruck.
His cheeks coloured, and Minho shot him a sweet smile. "Have a nice day, Mr. Jisung~"
"Likewise, Minho." He scooped the three drinks up with only a bit of difficulty and pushed his way out the door. "Shut it," he told his friends before they could even open their mouths to laugh at him.
