Felix's legs trembled as he made his way towards the pack infirmary. People murmured amongst themselves in the halls. Some looked worried, others slightly smug; his fist shook with rage, and he barely managed to restrain himself from planting it square in their faces.
The random sweatpants he'd found in a bush and tugged on were slightly too loose, hanging low on his hips, and he struggled to run with them, pulling the strings as far as they would go. He didn't particularly care about his indecent state, or that half the pack females were eyeing him up like he was their favourite food.
He didn't even have the energy to give them disgusted looks.
He burst into the infirmary, and immediately spotted Alpha Dongwook and Hyunjin, as well as the pack healers. They bustled around him, and over their heads, he could make out Jisung's ghastly face, the dark circles under his eyes popping, as well as the large gash they were treating on his side.
His knees almost gave way beneath him. Hyunjin hurried over to him, teary eyes glistening; Felix was sure his expression mirrored that. He was soon trapped in a hug, and he buried his face in Hyunjin's shoulder.
"A vampire got him," Felix's eyebrows furrowed as he pulled away slightly to look at him in confusion. "It somehow got by our guards, and went undetected... it was in his house." He glanced over at Jisung's motionless body. "He took the sucker down but... he sustained major damage." His throat bobbed as he swallowed thickly. "The wound isn't closing; silver."
Felix stilled, and slowly backed out of the hug, leaning against the far wall of the infirmary and sliding down to the ground; this may very well be Jisung's deathbed. Tears slid down his cheeks as he curled his knees up to his chest, burying his face in them.
It was hard to believe that one of his best friends was dying. Hyunjin sat down next to him, and wrapped a comforting arm around his shoulder, even though his own heaved with sobs.
"The bastard wanted us to know who did it." Felix looked up in surprise when the Alpha spoke. His fists were clenched tightly at his sides, his knuckles white. In one of his hands was a blade with a red hilt, dried blood still crusted on it.
Felix paled; he knew the markings on that blade. It belonged to one army, and one alone. "The... The Vampire King?" Alpha Dongwook nodded and turned to face them, face rigid with fury, his eyes fully golden in his anger. He couldn't help but flinch when that gaze landed on him.
"I'm going to kill him," the Alpha mumbled as he collapsed in one of the chairs at Jisung's bedside.
"You know that's not possible, Alpha Dongwook." Everyone in the room startled at the sudden, unexpected voice, and there in the doorway stood an old man, shoulders hunched slightly with age, laugh-lines wrinkling his skin, with a long, white beard and adorning loose robes.
He used a staff to walk into the room, and Felix gasped when he eyed the crystal atop it; a wizard. Dongwook slowly stood from his chair, though he did not make any effort to appear cheerful. "Grand Wizard Moonsoo, thank you for coming so quickly," he said blandly, and the wizard hummed as he stepped further into the room.
He gasped softly when he came to stand beside the bedside. "This is... this is not possible, Alpha Dongwook." His eyes darted between Dongwook and Jisung, his eyes blown wide. Felix was momentarily startled; he did not think a wizard as old as he could be surprised by anything anymore.
"What is it?" Alpha Dongwook asked impatiently, and Moonsoo briefly touched his forehead.
He shook his head. "This boy... looks identical to a man I once knew." His bewildered expression slowly eased. "His name was Kim Jinsun." He shook his head again. "I did not think something of this sort was possible..." he mumbled under his breath.
