I'm not quite sure when I decided that music was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life — it just kind of happened. For as long as I could remember, I was putting on performances in the backyard for my family, pretending that I was a famous pop-star that was about to travel the world. It was always my dream to be known, to have an impact, but it always seemed as though it were so far fetched to ever even imagine it happening. With my brother always being my focused on a screen and my sister living in some sort of dreamland where Barbie Dolls and high heels were her best friends, my parents instilled their faith in me, hoping that perhaps I would be the child prodigy that had always wanted. We weren't a wealthy family — not at all — but every cent my family made went toward putting me into lessons to nurture my natural abilities. Ten dollars a week for guitar lessons, fifty a week for dance, thirty for piano, the list goes on and on. Soon though, the money supply was dwindling down to the point where living off of twenty dollars a week was the norm. Music took a backseat as we struggled to make ends meet, and honestly, I lost my passion for it too.
It wasn't until I was twelve and I met Bella. That was when my whole life changed. Music became fun again and less of a burden, there was no expectations to be the best, or to do everything perfectly. Bella took me in and under her wing as if I were her little sister, showing me that music was about expressing yourself. About letting yourself be vulnerable. About having fun. We would convince our parents to let us stay over at each other's houses for days on end, (I think our record was a week and a half,) and mess around filming ourselves singing covers of all of our favourite artists. They were never for anyone else's eyes, and neither of us minded it that way. It stayed that way until we were fifteen, when we recorded a cover of Sia's Chandelier. I remember watching the video over and over, in awe of how far the two of us had come by simply having fun. Neither of us had any words as we looked at each other that night, both thinking the same thing. Within twenty minutes we had created a new Instagram account under the username @bellaadelaide, and without even hesitating, we posted our cover for the whole world to see before going to sleep. Never in my wildest dreams could I have predicted what would happen that night.
15,000 views in just over six hours. It was completely and utterly insane. The number continued to skyrocket as each second passed by, followers pouring in like water going down a waterslide. Neither Bella or I were ready for what was going to come next, but we weren't about to turn it away either.

For as long as I can remember it's always been my mom and me against the world. My dad passed away when I was three, so as you can imagine, it's been the two of us for quite a while now. My mom has always wanted to make up for the fact that I grew up without my father around, giving me virtually whatever I asked for within reason. Dance classes, music lessons, a new guitar, you name it. I guess looking back it's no surprise that I was obsessed with music from a young age, constantly putting on performances at our local theatre and loving every minute of it. We never had much, but we never needed it. I didn't mind the small size of our house because it just meant that we were that much closer.
And then middle school started and everything changed. Suddenly, taxes and bills rose. My mom had to start working another job just to keep food on the table, meaning that she was hardly ever around anymore. My best, and pretty much only friend, Adelaide, was the only constant that remained through the next four years. I was constantly spending the night at her house, eating dinner with her family, and spending hours on end locked up in Addie's room recording videos. We were just crazy kids recording covers of our favourite artist, my personal ones being Colbie Caillat and Marina and the Diamonds. And then it happened.
One of our videos went viral. We hit upload then went to bed, and the next morning, our cover of Sia's Chandelier had nearly 15,000 views and from there that number only continued to climb. And from there on out, it's been an insane, nonstop ride for the two of us ever since.
