Core's POV
I looked up at it. An ugly old redbrick building, like all the other places my mum had sent me. I knew that I was going to hate it here. Everyone else on the bus was talking to friends, apart from me. I assumed they were all returning here for the next year, where as I was new. I had to establish myself. The bus trundled through the gates. I glaced at the name plate. Ridgedog's academy for 'gifted youngsters' What it should really say was toubled youths. In fact I would probably be their star pupil. Yeah I was gifted but that gift was attached to so much baggage that it was barely worth having.
I climbed of the bus. Most people knew exactly where they were supposed to go and I was included. My mum had written me a note telling me to head straight to reception. Luckily there was a super helpful sign above the entrance that read, suprise suprise, reception. I pushed my way inside. Somehow I knew that the reception had been built recently compared to the rest of the mansion, that was probably one of my gifts.
"Excuse me?" I called to the receptionist, she turned "Urm I was told to hand this in" I slid the letter across the table to her. She opened it and scanned the first line.
"Please take a seat Charles" She said to me. I sighed and slumped into a chair. The receptionist swivled her chair around to pick up the phone. "Ridge could you come down to the office please, thanks" She slammed the phone down. About a minute later the headmaster walked in. He had chocolate brown hair and and brownish eyes. He was wearing a long black coat with gold details, a grey waistcoat, and beige trousers. He nodded at me and then engaged in a hushed conversation with the receptionist. This was the same thing I went through at every new school I joined. Eventually Ridge, which seemed to be an appropriate thing to call him, turned to face me.
"Your mother explained you circumstance well Mr. Sanity" He had a formal way of speaking, as if each line had been written by a litterary professor. "This is your timetable" He produced it with a flourish like a cheap magician "Your homework planner" A small booklet, leather-bound "A map of the school buildings and grounds" Folded neatly "With your dorm marked on it" He gestured to one of the many buildings that I could see out of the window. "See you in class Charles" Then he was off, without another word.
I trudged towards my dorm. It was a circular building with three floors, and enough windows to iluminate a coal cellar. The door was marked with a embossed, golden, cursive 3. The door itself was a very fammiliar type of wood, painted Tardis blue, with a brass door handle and knocker. I opened it and found myself in a circular common room. Bookshelves and board games were spread about the place, along with many chairs. A couple of people shot me glances but I ignored them. I dragged my suitcase over to the stairs and started climbing. The second floor was the girl's rooms. While my mum had sat down and gone through the school's rules with me I was still tempted to try and meet some cute girls. My life was a lonely one and I needed someone to share it with. But I kept on walking. I'd never managed to get expelled on the first day before but I might as well not try it.
My room was number seven. Inside was nice enough, larger than my room at home and with room enough for my stuff. Inside a guy of about my age was sat at a desk sketching. I glanced over his shoulder and saw that he was drawring a picture of a girl. It was in greyscale but I could tell that the girl was pretty.
"Nice picture" I said, shocking the boy. He slid the picture down behind his desk and turned to face me. He had brown hair with a crazy blonde streak, weird purple eyes and a mask over the lower side of his face. Of course I was simalar. My hair was flame red and I always wore the same pair of sunglasses.
"Who are you?" His voice had a hint of Scandanavian to it, possibly Swedish, and was laden with distrust. "And why are you in my room?"
"I'm Core" I explained "And I'm in your room because there was space and the teachers decided to put me in it"
"Ahh" Comprehention dawned on his face "I'm Rythian" He offered me his hand. I shook it.
"Who was that girl you were drawring?" I wondered, throwing my stuff on my bed.
"That's Zoey" He explained. "And you absolutly can't tell anyone that I was drawring her"
"Why not?" I raised my eyebrow so much that it rose over the rim of my glasses. "Scared she'll find out?" Rythian didn't answer, instead he tried to hide his face from me. It wasn't hard but I knew what he was doing. I'd seen it enough at other schools. "So" I was now attempting to break the icy wall that had just formed between us "Do you know anyone else around here?"
"Well there's Lewis" Rythian said, he'd opened up an end of year photo on his laptop. "He's new here as well. Simon" He pointed to a short ginger guy at the front "Teep" A big kid with black hair "Martyn" A blonde guy about half Teep's size "Sips and Sjin" Sips and Sjin were dressed in identical shirts, Sips' had an blue square on it where as Sjin's had a orange one. "Duncan and Turps" Duncan was a tall blonde boy wearing a white labcoat and green tinted goggles nestled among his hair. Turps was a black haired guy who was trying to hide behind Duncan "Parv and Sparkles" The two boys were clearly best friends they both had their arm's around eachothers shoulders "Strippin and Benji" Again best friends "Toby and Nilesy" I could tell from the attempted long distance high five that Toby was Martyn's best friend. Nilesy was wearing a shirt an tie and glasses. "And last but not least Pyrion and Will" The two of them looked more like frienly rivals than friends. They both stood shoulder to shoulder, arms crossed.
"What about the girls?" I asked, innocently.
"Well there's Hannah" He said, pointing to a blonde girl near the front "Kim" A short black haired girl stood next to Hannah. "Zoey" Zoey had brilliant red hair "Minty and last but not least Kaeyi" He looked over at me "You better get settled in quickly. First days are the most stressful"
"What?" I looked over at him, worried I'd misheard him "Why?"
"Well you are taken on a tour of the school" Rythian explained "Meet your teachers, learn about your lessons etc etc. Also Ridge will want to speak to everyone in the main hall if we have new students, that's quite a rare occurance" He glanced over at me sympathertically before returning to his sketch...
Jasmine's POV
"Dad" I whined "Why do I have to come here" Sure I was sixteen but I didn't want to move to a new school, not now.
"Because" He explained, stroking my hair "After the incident your mother and I deemed it nessacary that we relocate you" I pouted but said nothing. We were sat waiting for them to sort out my timetable. My dad kept stroking my hair. It reminded me of when I was young, when we would sit by the fire and tell stories. Before we discovered that I was 'gifted' Ever since that fateful day I had been shuffled from school to school, never staying anywher for long. "Also, why blue?" I looked up at him. I had recently highlighted a single stip of my fringe turqoise to break up the blonde. It went well with my eyes.
"I like blue" I sighed, for about the thousanth time "It goes well with my eyes"
"Fair enough" He said, then the receptionist returned. She was carrying a sheet of paper, a neatly folded map, and a leather bound book. She passed them to me and explained what they were and headed of to my dorm. On the way I passed many people, a few said 'Hi' but most ignored me. Just another new student.
Once I was inside my dorm I headed for my room. It was nice enough, apart from the fact I had a roommate.
"What do you think she's going to be like?" I heard a girls voice ask as I neared the entrance to my room. I sighed, same old same old.
"Probably twice as sane as anyone in this room" Laughed another "Cough, cough, Zoey Hannah, cough, cough"
"Hey" I heard to different girls chorus. I decided to break this up there. I knocked on the door.
"Umm excuse me" The five girls within turned to face me. "I'm looking for Zoey's room"
"This is it" A redheaded girl chuckled "Make yourself at home, that's your bed" She pointed to the bed that she wasn't sitting on. "I'm Zoey" She extended her hand in a gesture of friendship. I took it whole-heartedly. "That's Hannah" She pointed to a blonde girl sat on the rug "Kim" A shorter, black haired girl who was sat next to Hannah "Minty" Another blonde girl about the same height as Kim "And Kaeyi" Kaeyi smiled at me.
"Hey girls" I smiled, dumping my stuff on my bed. "I'm Jasmine"
