D A H L I A
"Okay. Talk." I say to Nathan when we sit down on my couch. Yes. My couch. That's the only couch I sit down on in my living room. It's just so soft and comfy.
He opens his mouth to talk, then hesitates for a while. Seconds later, he says, "I need to tell you something important. It may ruin our friendship but I just need to tell you now before you find out by yourself."
This isn't how a guy starts when he's about to tell you he likes you; my subconscious chips in.
I actually really thought Nathan was going to tell me he had a crush on me? I'm probably not wrong, because he looks nervous as hell. I'd love to hear the words, I like you Lia, especially if they're coming from Nate.
I internally squeal. I smile and nod as encouragment for him to continue.
"Here goes. I... have a girlfriend, Lia."
My smile quickly falters and I start to blink so quickly that I fear my eyes might fall off.
"Could you repeat that? I've not had my ears checked in a while which is probably why I heard you say you had a girlfriend." I laugh nervously.
The look in his eyes tell me he's not joking. How could he have-
"I'm so sorry." He says, cutting off my thoughts.
I point my index finger toward the door. "Get out." His eyes widen and he says, "Let me finish, Lia."
"Oh, you're not done? How about you go on? Tell me all the secrets you have so that we can have a confession session. Tell me everything you've been hiding from me." My tone is laced with anger.
"I have a girlfriend, I know that looks so bad, considering I've never told you about her. Trust me, there's a good reason why. But I have fallen for you, Lia. I like you. You make me smile and laugh harder than anyone else, and you're amazing. You're such an angel and I've fallen for you."
I stand up slowly.
And then..
I laugh.
"What a load of shit. I don't know if you've mistaken me for another Dahlia but it's sure as hell not me you're feeding this bullshit to. Do you think I'm freaking stupid, huh? Of course, I thought you liked me because you acted like I was the only girl in the world when we were around each other. You made me happier. And now, you're telling me you have a girlfriend, but it doesn't matter because you're in 'like' with me?"
"I know it seems bad but-"
I cut the jerk who is about to make me cry off. "No. It doesn't seem bad. It is bad. Get out of my house right now."
He stands up and comes closer to me.
"Wait Lia-"
I move backwards, far away. Far away from him.
He tries again. "If you'd let me explain, then you would know that it's not my damn fault. You're always so quick to believe what you want to believe. Just let me tell you this then I'll leave you alone, since that's what you want."
This time, the doorbell rings. Nathan sighs in annoyance and I walk over to the door to open it. It's Kiara.
"Lia," She says the scowl on my face then corrects herself, "Dahlia, I need your help. I have something that I can finally use against Richard and it's epic! Gosh, I'm so happy to finally leave his ass alone."
I eye her. "That's great to hear, but I have no idea how that concerns me, Kiara. I don't care about you or Richard so I don't know why I should care about this."
"Look, I understand what you mean. I messed up big time, and after I'm through with Richard, we will fix up our friendship. I will fix what I broke. But right now, I want to take him down because he thinks he's a king or something. He's hurt enough people and it's time to stop it." She looks pissed but her demeanor changes when she finally spots Nathan behind me, on my couch.
"Oh hey Nate."
He smiles at her, "Hi Kiki. It's been a while."
She smiles back. "It has."
Two seconds later, she faces me again and says, "Think about it. Please. I'll text you on Dazer, and I'll tell you what I want you to do."
Then, she walks off into the night.
Okay, that sounded like something you'd see in a romance book.
I shut the door slowly and lean against it. Surely I'm not thinking about helping her, am I? She's been a such a bad friend to me in these few weeks that have passed and I can't possibly help her take down the jerk who broke her heart, can I?
"You're thinking about doing it, aren't you?"
Nathan chips in and I roll my eyes, "No I'm not."
He smiles and begins to take long strides over to where I am by the door and I want to just jump on him and kiss him. He's so beautiful.
"Nathan, I-" I try to say when he finally gets to where I am.
"Don't do it Lia. It won't end well, trust me."
I'm about to reply when the door is suddenly barged open. I'm about to fall, but Nate catches me. It feels like such a romantic moment, but as you know, my life can't ever go well.
As I'm looking into Nate's eyes, his arms around my waist, I hear the voice that haunts my dreams at night.
"Dahlia Rosa! Get away from that boy this instant!"
