DAHLIA

Kiara didn't stop crying until school closed. I didn't want her to go to class like that, and I also couldn't go to class because I was on the verge of crying. We stayed in the janitor's closet and no one, not even the janitor himself came knocking. That was our luck.

We're both at Kiara's home now, I told mom I'm sleeping over so that I could take care of her. Yes, my mom knows. She knows everything about me. And she wasn't happy about Richard breaking Kiara's heart.

At least now, she has stopped crying a bit, she's almost done with her third jar of nutella. I just hope she won't have a tummy ache.

"Ki, are you okay now?" I ask, and she turns, her eyes slowly meeting my eyes. She takes a deep breath and says, "No. No I'm not. No one will expect me to be okay, but I can't kill myself because of a boy. Nutella made me understand that," she laughs because of my expression, "Yeah, that sounded really weird, but it's true."

I don't know what else to do but to hug her, so I do just that. But this time, she doesn't sob, she just licks the nutella off of her fingers and hugs me back.

The next day in school, I see Carla talking to her friends about Lord knows what. Honestly, I don't care. I just want to talk to her, because yesterday she didn't seem like she wanted to kiss Richard.

I walk over to them, and wave my hands, flashing them my fakest smile yet. They seem to buy it, because they all smile back.

"Hey, Carla, can I talk to you for a sec? It won't take too long, I just need a minute."

Carla nods, "Sure. Guys, I'll catch up with you in class, okay?"

The three of them nod and head to the class, giggling about whatever it is they're giggling about.

"So what's up?" She asks after facing me again.

She looks so friendly, it's hard to be angry at her. "I will go straight to the point. What is going on between you and Richard? Don't bother lying to me. I saw you both yesterday so you better start talking, girl."

Her face fills with fear and I start to wonder if this girl is just naturally friendly.

"I swear, it was him. You saw it. He kissed me. I just.." She rests her back on the locker behind, obviously at a loss for words.

"Yeah, I saw it. But I also saw that you kissed him back. You could have pushed him away. You know he has a girlfriend and she so happens to be my best friend. Imagine how heartbroken she is right now."

"She saw us? Oh my, I had no idea! I'm so sorry, how is she?" Her expression looks very frantic and it's funny.

"She's doing good, no thanks to you." I spit at her. Well not literally, but, I know you get what I mean.

"Look, I messed up. I know I did. I've liked Richard for a long time and before that day, we had this moment. It was just eye contact and that was all. I thought he forgot it until yesterday. I knew he had a girlfriend but I still kissed him anyway. I feel so bad. He asked me out and said I should answer him today. I'm going to say no, I swear. I can't be with a guy who is so unfaithful. I'm sorry, I will apologize personally to Kiara when I can." She says and I just nod. I don't know if I believe her or not.

"Okay, I just hope you do."

"Hey Lia!" Someone shouts as I'm walking to my locker. English was the worst. I don't know what angered Mrs Patterson today but that thing better watch itself. That woman is nice when she's angry.

"Hey, Nathan. Fancy seeing you today. You and your invisible streak." I say and he laughs. His bag is on his back, and it looks heavy. Ah, the life of a bookworm.

"Yeah, I guess that's fair. How're you?"

How am I, really? I don't know. I haven't seen Kiara since last night. I had to leave her house because mom had an emergency. Which wasn't real. She only said that we needed a mother- daughter time.

"It's been so long, Kiara will be fine." She said.

I barely see Kiara in school because we have different classes. But today, she's been like a ghost.

"Umm, Dahlia? I asked a question." He snaps his fingers in my face.

"Oh, sorry. I got carried away a bit. I'm fine. What about you?"

"I'm okay too, I guess. Do you have a class now? I'm free for like two periods."

"Yeah I have a free period, why?" I ask and he blushes.

"I was thinking maybe we could talk and get to know each other better. But if you don't want to, it's fine." He looks away, obviously he's scared of my answer.

"No, no, it is. I would love to. The library maybe?"

"Sure, that'd be great."

On the way to the library, I text Kiara.

Thirty minutes later, Kiara still doesn't answer and I have to admit I'm worried. But Nate- yeah, I'm calling him that now- is more fun than I thought. Mrs Tiffany, the librarian has said the words, 'shush, this is a library.' more times than I can count.

The bell rings. "I was starting to enjoy the story, damn! I'll text you when I'm home."

Nathan chuckles and nods. "See you later, I have books to read!"

It's my turn to laugh, and when I walk out of the library, I hit someone who I feel like killing at the moment.

"Richard. What do you want?" I scowl.

"We need to talk." He says.
