roia jean king

i sigh as i sit in the chair, adjusting the graduation cap on my head. i stare down at the brace on my knee and poke at it, pouting to myself that i'd have to walk across the stage using crutches. i'm on crutches, at my college graduation. i shake my head, patting the makeup on my face and then spraying it over with setting spray before reaching over to grab my crutches, but of course, they fall over onto the floor. leaving me stranded in the chair. i let out a huff of frustration before scooting away from the vanity and lowering my self onto the floor and scooting towards the crutches. as i'm leaning over to grab the crutches, my door flies open.

"hey babe we should head-...the one time i'm not recording!" david exclaims, witnessing his girlfriend sprawled out across the floor.

"are you just going to stand there and complain, or are you going to help me?" i pout, letting my head fall to the ground.

"guys look, it's the lady of the day, roia jean....on the ground!" jason laughs as he walks in, his camera in his hand.

"i dropped my crutches and i couldn't reach them. so i did what i had to do. for me, for my family...for my country." i exaggerate, making jason laugh.

"oh come on. you're giving him the good footage? this old guy?" david scoffs, gesturing wildly towards jason who continue filming out playful banter.

"i will beat you with this crutch if you don't help me up."

"you wouldn't hurt me." he glares, making me raise my eyebrows.

"bold of you to assume but-" i begin but quickly interrupt myself by throwing one of the crutches at david.

the underarm support hitting him right in the stomach. he doubles over, a pain-filled laugh exiting his lips and jason's laughter fills the room.

"okay, but seriously, can someone help me out here? i have to leave soon. i really don't want to miss my own graduation." i pout.

jason turns his camera off and grabs my crutches for me as david picks me up off the ground.

"you look beautiful, baby." he whispers into my ear, before pressing a kiss to the side of my head.

a blush spreads across my cheeks and he places me down as jason hands over the crutches.

"thank you." i smile at the both of them.

then we head out, everyone else already there or on their way.

"you guys have your tickets and stuff, right?" i ask, double checking as we pulled up to the school

"yes we have everything, now go." david ushers me off.

i lean over, pressing a quick kiss to his lips before hobbling off to the auditorium.

the ceremony was long and the entire time to only thing i could think about was how badly i had to pee and how hungry i had gotten sitting in these cheap plastic seats. but everything was worth it when i wobbled my way across the stage to grab my diploma. coach roone had even stopped me at the bottom of the stage to tell me how proud he was of me and that he slashed the opposing coaches tires that day. but alas, after a stressful bathroom break and a trip to chick-fil-a, everyone was now seated in david's house. liz, tom, harrison, and i were all seated next to each other, our caps still on our heads and our gowns still on with boxes of chicken nuggets on our laps. david had taken a plethora of disposables of us sitting like this, deciding that it looked 'super cool and aesthetic.'
