Chapter Two - A Shopping Trip

Elena's P.O.V:

As we were racing Caroline down the highway, we had the better car but weren't going as fast as we could, before I knew it Elijah started to speed up. We were hitting 108 mph and had overtaken Caroline. Even though Caroline and I both had rich parents, hers weren't as rich as mine were and mine are nowhere near as rich as Elijah.

My phone started to ring and I saw it was Caroline.

"Elena?"

"Yes, Matt?"

"Caroline told me to tell you to tell Elijah, that he cheated because he has a sports car." Matt paused as though listening to someone. "I've just been told to tell you to remind Elijah that he doesn't know where the Shopping centre is." Matt hung up.

"Elijah -"

"I heard, can you show me the way?"

"Yep, take the left here." I text Caroline saying I knew the way and we'd beat them there. "Speed up a bit, and take the next three consecutive rights." As we got to third right, Elijah spoke up.

"You know Niklaus is in the car with Caroline don't you?" I shook my head.

"No I didn't know - continue straight until you come to a left turning - what's going on between them?"

"To be honest; I have no idea. If he starts to carry her bags and do what she tells him then we know he loves her."

"As her "escort" isn't that his job? Who did Matt bring?"

"Does that mean it's my job to carry your stuff?" I smirked. "Matt brought Rebekah. Technically, it isn't his job, his job is to make sure no one takes advantage of her."

"Where is Bonnie? Caroline's car doesn't fit six people, and we didn't bring her. Who is escorting her?"

Elijah smirked. "I guess you'll have to find out. This it?"

"Yeah. Elijah please just tell me who brought her?"

"Look over there," Elijah said, pointing in a direction we were headed. I followed his finger and saw Bonnie with Kol.

"Kol! Bonnie and Kol, since when?"

"About three weeks ago. They tried to keep it a secret but since we all have super hearing, it's quite impossible." We grinned at each other and Elijah quickly parked his car. As I went to open my door Elijah had flashed over - a perk of being a vampire, I am told - and opened my door for me.

"Thank you 'Lijah," I said as I got out of the car.

Elijah raised an eyebrow, "'Lijah, hmm. I think I like that. You can call me that if I can call you 'Lena."

I nodded. "Of course. Let's get everyone else, 'Lijah." Elijah nodded and we both set off talking about our past week, we only got a day in because Bonnie and Kol had reached us.

"Where are Caroline, Matt, Rebekah and Klaus?" Bonnie asked.

"On their way here, they were further behind us. We were racing them; we won." Elijah replied.

"It's not like you to get competitive, brother," Kol commented.

"It's not like you to question me; it's normally Nik, not you bother."

"Nik isn't here Elijah."

"Yes he is, just turned up," I said. I could see Caroline's car. When looks were sent at me I pointed it out.

"That makes sense."

"Shall we go shopping then?" Caroline asked as she and Klaus came over with Matt and Rebekah a little way behind them. All the girls nodded and skipped ahead, while the boys didn't reply as enthusiastically, the Mikaelson's were happier than Matt, Damon and Stefan (Damon and Stefan arrived moments after Matt and Rebekah), because they had a lot of money and could, therefore, buy nice things. Kol was probably the most excited, though.

All the boys agreed on one thing, though; being escorts was not a good thing; especially with these girls. They were horrible shoppers. Compulsive almost. Then again so were Kol, Elijah and Klaus; just maybe not as much as the girls.

They all bought new stuff. Elijah bought four new and very expensive suits, one more so than the others for he'd wear it to the ball in a few days, he also bought new shoes, a pair of trainers and jogging bottoms and he bought new cufflinks and very expensive deodorant. Kol also bought a suit for the ball but he bought one thing from all the shops they went to, in total Kol bought forty-eight items - including the suit. Most of them will probably travel from the store to the inside of Kol's wardrobe cupboard. Klaus bought two new suits - one for he planned to take Caroline to an expensive restaurant that night and one for the ball - he also bought little things and a lot of art supplies. In the past thousand years, Klaus had probably painted and drawn seventeen thousand paintings and drawings. He didn't do it yearly just when he had the inspiration to. Ever since he met Caroline, seven years ago, he has done about three hundred paintings; which is pretty epic. That's about a hundred a year. He used to do roughly seventeen a year. So naturally, he was running out of supplies and needed more of them. Damon and Stefan only bought a suit each and nowhere near the pristine quality of the Mikaelson's suits. Matt - who had more money than the Salvatore's - bought his suit and bought a bracelet for Rebekah who kissed his cheek and thanked him for the beautiful gift, she then put it on straight away and hasn't taken it off since. Us girls all bought dresses, I, a dark red dress that went to the floor, but was short enough so that I didn't have a train. Bonnie and Caroline got similar dresses, more or less the exact same as each other only in different colours, Caroline got hers in yellow and Bonnie got hers in blue. Although very similar Caroline's dress came to her mid calf and Bonnie's came to her ankles, not quite as long as my own. Rebekah's dress was a silver colour and was floor length with a train. The boys were all stunned when we came out of the dressing room and everyone - except for Stefan, who hated me; though he seemed to hate Elijah more than I, I'm curious as to why, though - Elijah came over to me and smiled.

"You look amazing, 'Lena."

"Thank you, 'Lijah. Hey, who are you taking to the ball?"

"I haven't asked the girl I want to take yet."

"Who do you want to ask? I know it won't be Caroline because of what we discussed earlier. It won't be your sister. It won't be Bonnie because Kol asked her earlier. Is it someone I know?" I thought about it for a second and made sure no one was actually listening. "Please tell me 'Lijah?"

"I was going to ask her later, but I'm sure she won't mind if I do it now." Elijah got a grin on his face and raised his voice. "Brothers, Sister, friends of ours. I have a question to ask someone. Elena Gilbert, will you accompany me to my family's ball in two days?" At first I was shocked he had asked me.

"Yes 'Lijah, I'll go with you."

"Brother, you wound me so," Kol stated dramatically grabbing at his t-shirt. "You threw a knife at my head when I called you 'Lijah."

"So I'd advise you not to do again," Elijah growled.

"Then how come Elena can call you that brother?" Kol asked.

"Because I am amazing Kol. Of course you know that; you love me." I shot a wink at Kol and saw that Elijah got slightly aggravated. "I'm joking with him 'Lijah. As far as I know he hasn't liked me in any way more than friendship." Kol glared at me slightly and I went to Elijah and held his hand.

"I could have done," Kol said offended slightly.

I glared at him. "Well I feel bad for you; I like 'Lijah." Kol got a mock-offended look on his face holding his chest. I rolled my eyes at him and kissed Elijah on the cheek before going back off to the girls so I could change and pay for the dress.
