CHAPTER 10
We ended up going to Waffle House which is only a 15 minutes walk. As we entered the small diner, the bell above the door chimed, alerting the workers that a new customer has entered.
A young girl greeted us and led us to a booth in the corner. She placed 2 menus on the table and told us to call her when we're ready to order.
I skimmed through the menu and decided to go with oreo ice cream waffles. My favorite.
"Do they sell banana split here?"
I looked up, momentarily startled that Damon was speaking. I almost forgot he couldn't see.
"Yeah, you want that?"
He nodded so I raised my hand to catch the waitress' attention.
The same girl came back to our table. I squint my eye, successfully reading the name Leticia on her tag.
"We'll have an oreo ice cream waffle and a banana split please."
Leticia nodded, scribbling the order on a notepad. "Will that be it?"
I nodded my head. She sent me a small smile then left.
I looked in front of me, observing Damon. His brown hair was tousled on top of his head, looking like he just got out of bed, which he did. Despite this, he still looked as handsome as ever. His pink lips were slightly parted as he stared down onto the desk. Sadly, I couldn't see his beautiful pair of green orbs as they're covered by the black shades he always wore.
I smiled looking at him. How in the world did I get someone as handsome as him to be my friend was beyond me.
"Why are you staring at me?"
I jumped at his voice.
"W-What? I wasn't!" I denied.
He rolled his eyes. "Even though I'm blind it doesn't mean I can't sense it when people stare at me."
"It didn't mean it was me, it might be someone else."
Deny deny deny
He rolled his eyes but didn't say anything else.
"Why do you always roll your eyes?" I changed the subject.
He just shrugged, not giving me a verbal answer. It was silent for awhile until I broke it.
"Have you had friends before?" I questioned in a quiet voice, hoping to come across casually.
He shrugged for the second time, "not really."
I raised one of my eyebrow, "What do you mean not really? Weren't you on the football team?"
He bit his lower lips softly, scratching the back of his head with one hand. "Yeah, but I never really considered anyone as a friend."
I nodded slowly, absorbing this new piece of information. I thought the reason for his lack of friends was the accident, apparently I was wrong and this has been going on for long before that.
"Why didn't you try to make friends?" I continued interrogating him. Might as well take advantage of Damon's willingness to answer my questions.
His face looked conflicted, debating on whether or not he should tell me.
"You can tell me," I encouraged.
He sighed heavily, rubbing his palms on his face and groaning. "This is embarrassing but fine," he grumbled. "When I was in middle school, I had a friend called Jacob. I was the most popular kid back then-"
