Luke

I pulled up in my driveway around eleven o'clock after dropping Mikey off. I try to unlock the front door quietly and sneak up to my room, but when the door opens I see my mom sitting hunched over on the couch. Her face always holds a permanent scowl.

"And where the fuck have you been?" She was drunk.

"Out." I walk past her and start up the stairs.

"You get your punk ass back here!" She slurs, following me.

I reach my room and slam the door in front of her. I rummage through my dresser drawers and pull out all of my clothes, stuffing them in random garbage bags. I can hear my mom banging on the door,

"Lucas Robert Hemmings, this is my house and if you're going to act like this then you can just leave!" Her voice was cold and full of hate. I open the door and she quiets down. I look into her eyes,

"Maybe I will." I push myself past her, down the stairs, and out of the house. I throw my bags in the back of my car and climb into the front seat, slamming the door behind me.

I drive to the only place I can think of, Michael's. I sit in my car for awhile, processing what just happened. I think about how she would've reacted to me and Michael. Horribly, I assume. Shaking the bad thoughts from my head, I climb out of the car and walk up his driveway and to the front door. I hesistantly knock on his door and take a step back. I heard the door unlocking and a few moments later it cracked open slowly. Michael stood there in his pajamas, his hair was messy. I had obviously woken him up.

"Luke, what are you doing here?" He said groggily.

"I'm so sorry Mikey, my mom kicked me out and I didn't know where else to go and, and-"

"Luke slow down, come inside and we'll talk." He grabbed my hand and pulled me inside. He sat down on the couch and I followed, sitting down next to him.

"So um, Luke, why are you at my house at 11:30 at night?" I swallow the bile rising in my throat.

"My mom kicked me out, I already told you." I avoind looking into Mikey's eyes.

"Luke," He sighs. "where are you going to stay?"

"Probably in my car, I mean just until I can get money for an apartment, but-"

Michael interrupts me, "Luke I am not going to let you sleep in your car, you can stay here."

My eyes widen and I give Mikey a confused look, "But what about your parents?"

His voice was calm, "They don't really live here anymore, it's just me."

"Are you sure?"

He looked me in the eyes, "Luke I want you here."

I wrapped him in a huge hug and we sat for a minute or two, "You won't regret this Mikey, I'll get a job to help pay rent and I'll even do chores." Michael smiled and took my hand and led me to the kitchen. We spent the rest of the night sitting in the kitchen exchanging mindless gossip. I ordered a pizza and ended up eating all of it, Michael didn't want any for some reason. We went to bed around 2am and fell asleep cuddled up on Mikey's bed, and it felt so right.
