"m-mark what are you doing here?"

"you didn't pick up my call," mark clenched his fist at the thought of donghyuck hugging lucas.

donghyuck let out a small half-heartedly laugh, "why do you care?" he found it ridiculous how mark just came to him like nothing happened and he expected him to pick up his call? that was a big no.

mark winced at the coldness in donghyuck's tone. even though he hated it but he deserved it after what he did to the latter. sighing as he tried to calm himself, he took a step forward, "donghyuck.. i'm--"

"no, stop mark," donghyuck backed away, staring at the floor, fingers digging in his palm. "don't you have enough hurting me?"

mark felt a pang of guilt in his heart as donghyuck looked up sharply at him, eyes stinging with tears that were threatened to fall. why it had to be now that he felt like protecting the latter, to wipe those tears away, to comfort him in his embrace and most importantly, to say sorry for being the one who hurt him. why didn't he feel all of those before? was he finally regretting his action?

"listen to me first--"

"i said no!" donghyuck shouted, placing his palms against his ears, gritting his teeth as he cried.

"please i can explain donghyuck!" mark trapped him in his hug that shocked the latter.

donghyuck struggled to get off from mark and with a little strength he had, he pushed mark away, making mark stumbled. "i remembered clearly that day when you told me i'm worthless.. that you don't love me.. that you just wanted to play with me.." donghyuck sobbed as he tried to even his breath, "isn't that a clear explanation already?"

"that's.." mark closed his eyes, shaking his head and pinching the bridge of his nose, "i messed up donghyuck.. that's not true.."

"you're lying.." donghyuck replied.

"you don't know the real me.."

donghyuck chuckled bitterly as he wiped his cheeks, "again with this excuse.. why don't you just tell me what do you mean by that?"

"i can't tell you.." mark sighed as he once again tried to reduce the gap between them.

"why..?"

"donghyuck please don't force me.." mark said softly, holding the latter's hand.

donghyuck pulled away from his hand roughly, "then go." with that, he slammed the door shut, leaving mark banging the wooden object with his fist accompanied by the call of donghyuck's name.

donghyuck muffled his sob against his palm, sliding down his back against the door. he missed mark but he thought this might be the best way for them. to stop seeing each other. he needed to sacrifice his feeling. he was hurting but it was better to feel the pain now than later. loving mark was a mistake. but could donghyuck stop his heart from loving the latter?

after a while, the sound stopped. mark's hand was numb, his body slouched against the door, exhaling a tired breath.

when did i become this pathetic? was what mark thought.

he turned around and leaned toward the door, "donghyuck.. i wish i can tell you one day.. but i will tell you when the right time comes.. i promise.." he muttered, not caring if the person behind the door heard him or not. sighing, he left the place with heavy footsteps.
