Chapter 29

Jaren's POV

I wake up to my alarm blaring in my ears. I turn over a slap it to shut it off. I roll over for a minute before throwing the covers over to the side. I yawn and walk to my bathroom. I get ready for the day. "Jaren, honey, I've left some bacon in the microwave." I here my mom yell from downstairs. I go to the kitchen and get to the microwave. I take a few pieces and bacon and shove them in my mouth. I turn around and look to grab my bag: "Hey mom?" I yell to her room. "Yes Jaren?" She yells back. "Have you seen my school bag?" I look around some more. "You didn't have it when you came home last night." She says. "Shit..." I whisper now knowing that I didn't do my homework. I walk to school without my backpack. As I am walking to class, John walks up to me. "Hey John" I say to him. On John's back is my backpack. He swings it off his back to hand it to me. "You left it at my house last night."  John says with a smile. "Thank you! I thought I lost it!" I say. We walk into class and sit down. "Alright everyone, please turn in your homework" our teacher says as the bell rings. Shit. I pull out my unfinished homework and John does the same thing. "Dammit! I completely forgot all about it." John says looking at the empty paper. I sigh before taking out my pencil. "Well then we will just have to make it up!" I say. I start guessing answers quickly, hoping for a completions grade. John follows behind me quickly. We both write down guesses that are most definitely wrong. I stand up and look over at John. He continues to write down things silently. "I guess I'll have to take whatever I can get.." I whisper quietly to myself. I take my homework up to the front of the classroom. My teacher looks at me for a second, not questioning anything. I look at my paper one last time before setting it in the grading tray. "Any last papers?" Our teacher asks. John hurries to turn his paper in at the last minute. We give each other looks that say "we're screwed."
