Past :

"Come on, Billy, just stay for one more game," Kalin begged as she paused the video game that was on the screen.

"You know I would if I could, Kalin, but mom will kill me if I'm not home in time for dinner." Kalin groaned at Billy's response, the twelve year old just wanted to spend some more time with her best friend before she had to tell him the bad news.

She was moving thanks to her mom getting a new job. She was so scared, she didn't want to tell her best friend. What would he think? Would he hate me? Nothing could prepare her more for what was about to happen to her. "Okay fine, at least let me walk you home," the girl insisted, getting up off the bean bag.

"No, it's fine, I'll be fine, I'll see you tomorrow?" Billy asked. In her head Kalin was screaming NO! but she couldn't help but lie through her teeth and say yes.

That was the last time Billy had seen Kalin in five years.

Four Years Later :

Kalin dreaded moving back to her hometown, everything would be so different from when she left. All her friends had probably forgotten about her, hell she even forgot about some of them, but there was one she never could quite rid of. Billy. All this time she had waited for one phone call, one letter, yet she received nothing. She never bothered to write or call because she was so afraid Billy hated her, that's why she assumed he hadn't written or called her. Four years was a long time without each other. Both wondered how the other was doing, until one fateful day.

Present :

It's just another ordinary day for Billy as he walks in the hallways of his high school. He's a senior this year, almost getting ready for college. He's not ready to leave his hometown, but he craves the freedom. As he walks down the hallway towards his Literature class, he sees a familiar face. Is that Kalin? No, there's no way. She would've told me she was back. The thought leaves his mind as he tries to study the girl's face for a second but he is interrupted by his classmates swarming around him asking about the Lit test they have next period. His view blocked, Billy tries jumping up to see the girl, but to no avail. I'm going to regret this. Billy turns to one of his classmates and asks, "Hey, who is that girl?" as he points to who he thought looked like Kalin.

"Who, her?" another classmate responds, "That's Kalin, she's new, she's in my first period."

"I knew it!" Billy exclaims. Just as he broke out of the circle, the first bell rang, signifying that they had a minute before class would begin. His conquest defeated by the bell, Billy walks to class. I'm going to find her.

Later that evening :

You can do this. Billy says to himself. He bought flowers and was prepared to see Kalin again. Right as he got home, he asked his mother if she had known anything about Kalin moving back and she wasn't able to confirm they had, but noticed their house was no longer on the market. With that, Billy concluded that maybe they moved back into their old home. Keys in his hand, shoes on, and flowers wrapped, Billy heads towards his car and heads to a nostalgic location.

On the drive there Billy couldn't help but flood his thoughts. What if she doesn't remember me? What if she hates me? What if she's not even there? What if that wasn't even her and it was just someone that looks like her? Before Billy is able to ask himself another question, he pulls into the easily recognizable driveway and before he knows it, has flowers behind his back, knocking on the doorway.
