The next morning when I wake up Michael is no longer laying on the cushions with me. I sit up frantically looking around. I see Eva and Curtis cuddled together still sleeping but Michael is nowhere to be seen in the den. I stand up wrapping my blanket around me and look at a clock to check the time. 6:38AM. Awfully early for Michael to be awake. I think to myself.

"I am in the kitchen eating breakfast." Michael responds to my thought.

"Isn't there a rule you should be following?" I ask him.

"You were alarmed by the absence of my presence therefore I am fully supported by Rule One." Smartass. I walk out of the den and make my way into the kitchen. Emily's perky voice basically makes my ears bleed as I walk closer to the doorway.

"You let our daughters sleep in a locked room with two boys?" Of course she is complaining and referring to Eva and me as her actual children. She has only been in our lives for 3 years. I stop in the hallway contemplating whether or not it is worth it to go in there.

"They are plenty old enough not to mention Eva and Curtis are engaged and have been living together for 7 years. Also Mike and Ni have been best friends since they were 5 years old." Dad responds to Emily.

"Ma'am, if I may, I can assure you that nothing obscure happened last night. I was awake all night." I muster up the courage and walk into the kitchen just as Michael finishes his sentence.

"Look at that!" My dad chuckles, "Speak of the devil and she shall appear." I roll my eyes and before thinking about the words coming out of my mouth I respond.

"Oh Dad. You insult me. I am a way more powerful Angel than Lucifer could ever dream of being." Dad and I stare at each other in horror as Emily looks at me with confusion. She starts to open her mouth to talk when Michael saves the day.

"Well, duh!" Michael starts laughing. "Only a true follower of God, which you are, will go on to the next life as an Angel, which you will, and of course unlike Lucifer you know that Humanity is God's greatest gift. So of course God would grant you the ability to be way more powerful than that bottom feeder." I smile at Michael.

"Yes, that is exactly what I meant, thank you for clarifying that." I hold my breath as I slowly take a seat at the island next to him waiting to see Emily's reaction. She just nods slowly clearly working out what Michael just randomly pulled out of thin air.

"That is a great way to see that!" she smiles perking up, "I am a way more powerful Angel than him." Emily laughs jovially and takes a sip of her tea. I let out my breath in relief. "You're a fucking genius." He nudges me knowingly and takes a drink of his coffee.

"Are you hungry Nilly-Bug?"

"Famished." Dad nods and stands walking up to the stove. He grabs the ingredients to start making me an omelet.

"Did you sleep okay?" Dad looks back at me after cracking the eggs into the pan.

"I have had worse." He nods sympathetically at me. "I am used to it though so it's cool."

"Hey Markus, could I get another omelet? That last one didn't quite hit the spot if you know what I mean." Dad turns around to face Michael and winks.

"You betcha, I will even add in my secret ingredient that beats the hunger every time; cinnamon." I giggle as Emily looks at my father like he has gone insane. Dad shrugs laughing, "What it is corn syrup free." She shakes her head smirking.

"I need to go get ready for work. Thank you for breakfast." She stands making sure to kiss my dad on the cheek before she exits the kitchen. Dad plates my omelet and hands it to me. He quickly grabs the makings for another one and starts on Michael's second one. I eat and watch my father as he walks in and out of his pantry holding a small bag full of what looks like ketchup but I know that it is blood for Michael. Dad adds the blood to the omelet and then throws the bag in the garbage.
