August, 2017.
Dear James Fraser,When the last episode of 'The Vampire Diaries' aired on March 10th, I was utterly heartbroken. I thought that I'd never love a fictional character as much as Damon Salvatore ever again. However, when I watched the first few episodes of 'Outlander', I realised how gravely mistaken I'd been.
From the very first moment I saw you, I was stunned by how spell-bindingly beautiful you looked even though you were gravely injured. I felt the chemistry between you and Claire ever since your first meet with her, when she patched up your wounds.
One of the earliest things I noticed about you is that you seemed to respect a woman's opinion, and even accept her help without being egoistic about it, something that a Scottish warrior living in the 18th century would definitely refuse. You were the true personification of an anachronism.
Your instinct was always to protect Claire. It was especially heartwarming to see how your friendship with her grew despite the fact that she was a 'Sassenach' in your home, a person whom everyone in your clan distrusted.
When you narrated the tale of how you were falsely imprisoned and punished, I cried for you when I heard the pain in your voice. I marveled at your bravery and ability to find humour even in the darkest of situations.
The lengths that you went to, to protect Claire were truly astounding. When you agreed to marry her, in order to save her from Randall's sadistic clutches, my respect and love for you deepened even further. When you gave her the choice of returning to her first husband Frank, I was astonished at your selflessness. You were a supportive husband, a loving brother to Jenny and even a brilliant laird to your people at Lallybroch.
Randall captured and tortured you, but you bore it all just so that you could save Claire's life. He might have had control over your body, but you put up a tremendous resistance. Despite him breaking you, you picked yourself up for Claire's sake and even attempted to rewrite history with her by your side.
Also, how has Sam Heughan not won an Emmy for playing you?! He is jaw-droppingly amazing! He portrays you with just the right degree of bashfulness, masculinity, charisma and innocence.
I know that the hardest thing you've ever had to do was part with Claire and your unborn child before the Battle of Culloden. Yet, you made it seem so easy.
I really hope you're reunited with Claire in the future, bending the rules of time and space altogether!
So, if anyone asks me to let you go, I'll say. "You are blood of my blood and bone of my bone. As long as we both shall live."
Yours Truly,
Maya Pearce.❤
