Marie Santiago sat in her shared room with her sister, Grace, in front of their television, watching Disney Channel. During a commercial, an ad for the Descendants 2 and You Sweepstakes came on. Seeing Cameron Boyce and Sofia Carson talking about how someone could enter—and win—the Sweepstakes and possibly get the chance to get a makeover into a character from the upcoming film as well as the chance to meet the two actors truly excited Marie. Turning to her sister with a wide grin, the girl spoke.

"We should enter!" Marie spoke excitedly to Grace, her older sister.

Grace stated matter of fact, "How are you so sure we'll win? They said 'many will enter, few will win'; there's no guarantee of us winning and getting the chance to meet them."

"Yeah," Marie began, "but there's still no harm in entering."

Sighing, Grace faced her younger sister and said, "You want to enter us, do it. Just keep in mind that we might not win."

Marie nodded in understanding and faced the television once more to continue watching a repeated episode of Bunk'd.

The next day, Marie decided to act on her on-the-spot decision from the night before.

Texting the number shown on the screen after the Sweepstakes, Marie waited patiently for a reply. Moments later, a reply came. She was now successfully entered. Knowing that, excitement overcame her. Due to her excitement, she shouted to Grace. "We're entered!"

Hearing her, Grace said, "Alright, well, now we just wait and see what happens."

Marie grinned widely and faced her older sister.

"Don't get your hopes up, though." Grace stated sternly. "I don't want you to think we'll win and then get upset if we don't. I get that you're excited but just don't get too excited."

Marie nods and hugs her sister. "Thanks for the pep talk, I needed it."

"Anytime, M."

Later that night, Marie slept peacefully, not knowing the fate that soon awaited her.
