All That Matters

I've been visiting Chris everyday for two weeks now, and it's driving me crazy. Every time I go to the hospital in the back of my head I think he's gonna wake up today, I have a feeling. But it never happens.

What's really bothering me is that prom is in 2 days, and even if he did wake up it will be to late to try to get things together. I've just been so depressed lately, life doesn't feel the same, school don't feel the same and I don't feel the same. We've only been going out for 3 months and I'm not in love with him but I have love for him.

As of right now I was walking across the street to talk to Mama Joyce. She's been going through it lately, and I can't imagine how it feels for your child to be in the hospital. Only lord knows what's going on in her head emotionally.

I walked up to the door knocking on it softly and waited until she opened the door.

“Hey” mama Joyce said opening the door for me.

“How you been?” I said embracing her into a hug.

“Good, c'mon in” I walked in and entered the living room sitting on the couch. Mama Joyce walked in and sat on the couch across from me.

“You hear any news about Chris yet?” I asked.

“Not specifically about Chris, but I did learn that they finally arrested the policeman that did that to him”

“Really? That's good to hear, so what are they gonna do to him?”

“Most likely nothing, the most they'll do is suspend him for a couple weeks without pay” Mama Joyce said laughing lightly. “But trust me if it was black man that did a white person like that policeman did Chris he be going to jail for some years”

“I know, around here when LAPD do something wrong to you, you'll get no justice”

“Yeah that's why I was thinking about moving”

“What?!”

“Jaye it's just a thought, I haven't really consider it yet”

“Mama Joyce not to disrespect you but if you're really gonna move because of this police incident that's dumb”

“How so?”

“Cause there's police everywhere, you can't run away from that” I said looking Mama Joyce straight in the eye. “I know you want what's best for your son, but moving is not gonna change what happened to him”

“You got a point, but I'm still gonna think about it”

I decided not to say anything else cause I knew that mama Joyce is just like Chris,stubborn. Truth is, I really didn't want them to move for my own personal reasons. Me and Chris just started going out and I'm not ready for him to leave. Me and mama Joyce was in deep conversation until her phone rang.

“Who is that?”

“Ummm” Mama Joyce said looking at her phone. “It's the hospital”

My heart skipped a beat when she said that cause I thought that meant he was finally awake.

“Hello?” Mama Joyce said answering her phone.

“.......”

“Are you for real?” Mama Joyce said getting excited. “When did this happen?”

“...........”

“Yeah I'm on my way now.. thank you for calling” Mama Joyce said standing up while hanging up her phone.
